-7°C now- dipped to -8 before the cloud started drifting over. Airport down the road reported -9°C making this the coldest night locally since 1991.

MetO rainfall radar suggests it's snowing here about now- but nothing's coming out of that thin veil and reaching the ground.

It's been a very cold night here, overnight low of -4.9c and currently -4.4c with partial cloud, which gave a stunning sunrise with a red band, on the horizon, just before the sun came up then proceeded with vary shades of pink, red and orange clouds, which looks amazing against the, still, largely white background of snow cover and heavy frost. Could all disappear later though, if it rains overnight.

That says everything you need to know about this cold spell here in Edinburgh where it virtually doesn't even rain any more, let alone snow (hence the reason why we continue to be in so much trouble as regards to water scarcity).

As I write, the temperature here in Edinburgh is now up to around 3°C with a lot more in the way of cloud around but still nothing in the way of any precipitation.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Small, spherical ice pellets falling, laying too- is this what's called graupel? With a few flakes mixed in. Still -1.5°C.

Meanwhile just got more snowy photo's from my family in Bridlington, south Notts and Ambleside where fresh snow has just fallen. North of here Armageddon continues

3c here and rain.......last few days and nights impressive frosts here as well , down to -7c , all been swept away easily , last few years have been 👎🏻👎🏻 for snow here

Well, well. It actually snowed for 25 minutes around 1pm. Quite heavily for a while leaving a bit of a dusting. Melted now as temperature risen to 1.6C.

Partly cloudy and cold, the earlier snow flurries having vanished without a trace (there was the very beginning of a dusting, for all of 2 minutes. during the last and final flurry). 1.1, dew -0.4, the ground remains frozen. The low earlier was -4.3, the coldest night for 3 years.

Had a further ~3 inches of snow this afternoon. Stopped ~4 pm then temperature rose to just above 0C with some light rain/sleet. Dry now with temperature holding ~0.5C.

After 3 days of glorious winter weather, ie decent snow cover and freezing temps, the milder air has pushed across my region, the East Riding, and it's currently 1.5degC with light rain, and the snow is melting...!!

Noticing a temperature rise from 1 C at 8 pm to 4 C currently (9.45 pm) and it is looking like the rain is moving in sooner than expected tonight (becoming wet by midnight rather than early hours).

The Great Chilly Spell Of First Week Of January is coming to an end.

Update at 10.15 pm: Now 5.2 C with a freshening south west wind. All back to normal.

Currently sat at 3.3c here, DP 1.7c and a bit of light rain falling. 

The ground remained solidly frozen when I got some logs in earlier so would still expect the rain to freeze on contact at least to some extent if/when it peps up a bit.

I know it's a continental thing, different DPs etc. but it is amusing how the rain band is rain until the French coast and then straight to snow. It's technically swimmable to where it'll be snowing in a couple of hours.

Heavy rain this morning, but sounding a little different to the usual drumming on the roof. Turns out there's been a mix of some icy stuff mixed in, including sleet and bits of clear ice - it's 99.9% rain though.

Currently it's still raining, with the odd bit of sleet, 2.0 / dew 0.8 (so colder than yesterday's pure snow flurries). The overnight high was 4.4 and it's been falling steadily since midnight.

There's been 5.2mm of rain so far.

I woke this morning to see what snow we had left has been replaced by ice pellets that have stuck to nearly every surface, including the roads and pavements. Heavily gritted areas aside its absolutely horrific conditions out there. -2c currently. 
Far north of East Sussex. +150m asl.

Rain yesterday evening which has cleared and now horrible black ice.  Quite difficult to move about outside.  Not even that cold at 1.9c, but the ground must be, and clear skies so ground temps lower too.
