This is what it’s like to sit on the edge of a cold spell. Heavy rain moved down from Ireland with a peak temperature of 3.6c..after midnight it dropped to 2c and rained steadily all night. 12.2 mm fell. The rain has now moved to the south with a few heavy sleety/hail showers following. Winds WNW now veering NNE. Current temperature 1.9c

We’re forecast for plus 10 degrees on Thursday!

-3C and clearing after a cloudy night. The next best thing to a snowy wake up is a white frost.

Interesting that it's fallen in a short time to -4.5C. Quite low for here. It will be lower on the heaths and valleys nearby.

Another -5 C and an ice day yesterday (24hr max -0.5C in the frost hollow)

My walk up the hill was 'refreshing' Frozen ground like stone. Frost and bits of yesterday's snow. From the top I could see Aberdeenshire's snow showers and a long line of CuNimbs in the North Sea marching south towards the Yorkshire Coast

Moderate snow here again just now as we are catching a stream of showers clipping the NE corner. Currently 0.3°C.

Edit: Moderate has become heavy just now.

Midday and temp is -1.7c. So we may squeak and ice day out of this spell.

I have absolutely no idea as to how the BBC came to the conclusion just yesterday that Edinburgh might have a chance of seeing some snow this morning as that has been absolutely nowhere to be seen with the weather continuing in the same manner as it has been throughout this spell.

Last night was promising to begin with, with the temperature dropping away very quickly at first but after I reported that on here, the temperatures then refused to drop much further than that all night despite the continued clear skies and light winds. This meant that in the end, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank dropped no lower than -4.8°C which was cold enough to make last night our coldest night of the year so far, but not quite cold enough to give us our coldest night of the winter. We are now almost halfway through the winter and yet, Edinburgh Gogarbank has still not recorded a single temperature during this winter of -5°C or below which is very poor indeed.

Today is bright and sunny once again (this is clearly already turning into another year in which the Sun just won't stop shining) and although the temperature here in Edinburgh is only around 2°C as I write, that is already slightly milder than yesterday, so we're not even going to get our coldest day of the winter today.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Been sub-zero here since New Year's Day. Occasional snow showers since then with ~1-2 inches of powder snow lying. Amazing how so few snow showers have managed to penetrate the Cairngorms given the extent of the activity to their North. -2C is about as high as the temperature has got during that period.

Party cloudy here with decayed shower clouds passing southwards. Missed out on an ice day with the temp touching 0.2C very briefly. Now back below zero at -0.3C.

The last day of the really cold weather today, before several days in a row of rain (whoopee). It's crisp, clear and calm; it's also the coldest night for 3 years, currently -4.1 which is the overnight low so far.

Yesterday's high ended up as 2.2 and the low yesterday was -3.8.

The ground remains frozen for now, but it'll be "fun" when it gets rained on tomorrow!

Our white frost is still here after a 3rd night of -5 C. However, the temperature is now up to 0 C and the first band of precipitation has given us nothing! It fragmented and passed to the north

Still waiting for something more than a flurry but I fear the next event will be freezing rain!

-3.1C here under largely clear skies. Too much breeze I think for what I expected would be a lower temperature.

The temperature has now risen to +2.5 from -5 C earlier

A 7.5 C rise in a few hours

I'm going to be rating this cold spell quite low I'm afraid

-0.1°C with light snow here currently.

There is an amber warning in force for later but I’m more worried about any rain on top of the snow.

Beautiful sunrise with streaks of pink alto stratus against the electric pale blue. Light ground frost with a current temperature of 1.3c. We had a few snow/sleet showers yesterday morning but apart from that it’s been just a little chilly.
