Southampton airport bottomed at -9 making it the coldest since February 1991 I believe.

(There was a rash of -6s and -7s during the 2009-11 cold spells.)

Almost made it to -5c in my back garden and can quite believe the -9c in areas about me, especially out in the open.

I think that is the coldest temperature of this spell - I didn't have Norfolk on my bingo card!

I'm intrigued Jiries why your conservatory manages to get below freezing so easily. What kind of glazing do you have?

Widespread -10s in the Highlands this morning after the snow finally cleared away. Temperatures are still dropping and just before 0900 it had fallen below -14C at the Tomintoul Climate Station which is one of the Met Office official sites; I guess we will see the official reading coming out at some point this morning. A few PWS stations in Upper Donside are at -16C this morning.

Braemar dipped to -12.1C by 10am, which will be credited to tomorrow's date.

And looking at the Tomintoul site, the very lowest -14.7C was actually just after 9am - it looks like -14.6C will be today's minimum and the -14.7 will count for tomorrow (and not be shown on the Met Office daily extremes site, as that does 9pm to 9am I believe).

There are also a number of other personal (so unofficial data) weather stations that have recorded lower temperatures: https://www.highlandweather.info

These will not however count in the official data sets.

At 12 noon it's still nearly -14C at Bridge of Gairn, so as the afternoon goes on temperatures will fall like a stone across the snowfields. Raw data doesn't suggest a full clear radiation night, but this evening and first half of tonight should see the lowest readings of the winter so far. Touch and go if any official stations are in that category of course, but we could see -18C on the PWS networks.

If the instruments in the screen could not be read that might explain why the digital reading has not been accepted as the lowest temperature last night?
