Happy Winter Solstice everyone

It would appear as though the slow and gradual rise back towards summer starts here and this also means that it's now winter (at least, it's supposed to be) regardless of how you actually define that.

Anyway, today has started off with a lot of cloud around although there is still also some clear sky around as well, so we should at least get the odd sunny interval today.

As has been the case throughout the complete non-event that is this so-called "winter", last night wasn't all that cold for this time of the year although the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank did drop to 1.3°C with a ground frost.

However, the temperature here in Edinburgh has now quickly jumped up to around 8°C which is certainly not even the least bit cold for this time of the year.🥵

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

I’m now back in the Scottish Borders where I will be spending Christmas with my family.

Today has started off on a rather dark  and dingy note although it’s also dry.

It’s also not even the least bit cold here as our frost-free horror show goes on with a temperature of around 7°C

As Retron alluded, it feels pretty cold out there now after what we've had. A lightish NNE breeze springing up and 6.5C feels cold this afternoon.

Started very clear this morning but the sky is now  a bit more milky looking. Currently 2.3c and a fair breeze, which is feeling very icy . A day to wrap up, when going out! Time to find my gloves.

Fine and sunny, much brighter than yesterday but the 5.4 C felt bitter raw cold in brisk NE wind when I just popped out to get bits & bobs. Certainly won't be much in the way of drone flying (my new hobby) for a few days.

Merry Christmas to all TWO-ers.

Dull and 4.4c

Was some patchy frost when it was clear earlier, low 1.6c

If you want snow keep an eye on the

Mammoth Lakes Webcam. Was no sign of any snow cover earlier. Building up nicely and could be feet of the stuff by Friday.

An absolutely lovely day here in Frome, a real chill in the air with the light breeze but very nice to be out in. What's made it a little more seasonal is I spotted two gritters out gritting the roads, I haven't seen them out for what seems like an eternity, maybe a frost on the way?

Clear blue sky's with temps a chilly 4.1c and Dew at 1c and a light easterly breeze

Clear, windy and yes, it feels perishingly cold out there! 😁

5.1, which is the overnight low, dew -0.3, with a gusty ENE'ly. The ground is now dry, having been a squelchy quagmire just two days ago.

EDIT: The yacht club up the road, who have a proper anemometer mounted 10m up, say this:

Dir/force: ENE F8

Wind spd: 42 mph / 36 kts

Wind gust: 42 mph / 36 kts

Avg (5m): 44 mph / 38 kts

Avg (1h): 42 mph / 36 kts

Max. gust: 56 mph at 2:41

After a clear night and generally light winds, dawn has broken with a part cloudy sky to the SE and still clear to the NW.

Overnight low -0.7c ( we usually get low temperatures from a NE direction) current temperature of 1.7c with a fresh ENE wind.

Hideously mild for some here but perishingly brrrr for me. Hasn't done that that for years on Christmas Day for me it seems.
