Remember, if you compare posts to last week, the early morning posts are likely to have been made an hour later in the coming week.

Some places around here were forecast to get an air frost last night but that didn’t happen and Edinburgh Gogarbank along with Charterhall in the Borders saw nothing more than a very slight ground frost. As a result, this cold snap is now unlikely to give us a single air frost here which is very poor for this far into the season now.

However, last night was our coldest night of this month so far as the temperature dropped to 2.6°C at Gogarbank and 2.2°C at Charterhall. As we are now back in GMT, this doesn’t change the length of the official observation day but the start and end of each observation day will now be an hour earlier on the clock as that will now occur at 9am GMT every morning instead of 10am BST.

As for this morning, it has now clouded over here after some clearer skies earlier on. Currently around 5°C here in Hawick.

Fair and bright if somewhat on the breezy side. Perfect drying up conditions and thus about to give my lawn the final, final mow of 2025. 14.4 C & mid-60% H but feeling quite chilly.

I'm now back in Edinburgh after my birthday celebrations in Hawick and today has been bright and sunny throughout that trip although there was still a cool breeze throughout today.

In the end, a total of 7.2 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank but that has sadly come too late to give us any chance of this month being sunnier than average as there isn't enough daylight left to bring this month's total up to the 1991-2020 October average. As a result, this month will now go down as being duller than average regardless of what happens during the rest of this month, thus finally bringing our long run of sunnier than average months to an end.

Currently around 6°C here in Edinburgh after a maximum of around 10°C.

After such a bright and sunny day, it’s now raining here in Edinburgh with a temperature of around 7°C (not surprisingly, the temperatures are refusing to drop here and have actually gone up slightly over the last few hours)

Here in Edinburgh, there's been some overnight rain and the odd earlier shower, but it's now bright and mostly sunny although it's also fairly windy.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 5.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

It feels quite cold in that wind but today is actually slightly milder than yesterday already with a temperature of around 11°C here in Edinburgh

Turning out pretty lovely with good sunny spells and a peak of 16 C and mid-60% H, even the annoying westerly breeze has eased off. Just a shame the sun sets behind the nearby built up hilly bit at 2.15 pm at this time of the year, but it is that which also shields my house from the worst of the south west winds.

Thoughts go to the residents of Jamaica, hope the death toll will be kept as a minimum.

After a morning of light rain with a few moderate spells, some heavier stuff has set in. May help October to finish above average here now. A good start to the aquifer refilling season

5.3C mostly sunny but a fair amount of light patchy high cloud.

Floods reported in Chichester yesterday much overstated  ("Gridlock on A27" etc) - some blocked drains reducing the bypass, which is congested at the best of times, to one lane
