Drizzle here started about an hour ago. Tree branches swaying only slightly in a gentle breeze.

Literally the calm before the storm.

Storm Amy has now arrived here in Edinburgh where it is now raining as I write.

There's not much wind around just now but that is usually always the case to begin with in these events and it will no doubt be a completely different story later on with probably a very noisy night to come.

Currently around 13°C here in Edinburgh

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Grim.

Persistent heavy rain, dense low cloud and a slight chill to the air.

The lights are on inside as it's so gloomy.

Currently living at roughly 65m asl North of Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan.

RSPB's Loch of The Lowss webcam showing the storm well. Speakers on!

I see since I posted this the video is now unavailable. I would guess storm damage of some kind - it has happened before. Not surprising.

Had a look at the radar and hope Chunky Pea is OK. Western Ireland is getting hammered.

Wind's getting up here now. Nothing extreme... yet.

Got a slight lull in the rain currently, but it's been moderate to heavy for the last couple of hours.

Been raining all afternoon but only in the last half hour has the wind started to ramp up. A gust of 65mph already to our SW at Dundrennan and over 70 mph now in Ireland and the Inner Hebrides

Amazing, very large and heavy rain band associated with storm Amy crossed Scotland, and again , a total of only 4 mm received at my location in speyside.

We seem to miss the rain but always get the gales !!

This storm is looking at giving a period of over 30 hours of prolonged gale to severe gales in northern Scotland. Just going to be a breezy day down south 😜

All sorts happening here now, a very squally band of heavy rain (cold front) just rushed through like a train! The loudest gust so far. Followed by bright sunshine, a double rainbow and now wet and windy again. I notice Malin Head has reached 92 mph

In addition to the 92 mph at Malin Head, I see that Eglinton (City of Derry airport) has recorded a gust of 89 mph, which is very notable for the location.

WInds at Edinburgh Gogarbank currently gusting up to a maximum of around 44 mph from the SSW which isn't all that much for a named storm but as I write, we've already had a total of 9.8 mm of rain from that at Edinburgh Gogarbank which already makes today our wettest day of this autumn so far.

However, the temperatures are refusing to drop just now even behind that cold front and the temperature here in Edinburgh as I write is still a ridiculously mild 18°C as I write.

There was a burst of sunshine later on which shows us that in this year in which the Sun just won't stop shining, the Sun always manages to find a way through regardless of the synoptic setup. On this occasion though, that wasn't enough to prevent today from going down as the first completely sunless day of this month. This means that a total of just half an hour of sunshine has been recorded over the whole of the last two days which is absolutely pathetic, and this is showing us once again that recent days haven't been anything like as sunny as what we've been used to this year.

Highest wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank now up to around 64 mph from the SW. For a lot of the time, it doesn't appear to be all that windy but then we get these really big gusts all of a sudden. As it is though, that now makes today our windiest day of this year so far and by quite a considerable amount as well.

There are also quite a number of frequent, blustery showers continuing to be brought in by that wind, so it's not really very good weather to be out and about in.

Meanwhile, the temperature here in Edinburgh has dropped back a bit to around 13°C although that is still far milder than I would like it to be at this time of the year.

There was some further overnight rain here which has now cleared away but the rainfall total from this event has added up to an incredible 20.8 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank which makes yesterday our wettest day of this year so far and hopefully, that will go a long way towards easing the water scarcity situation which has been ongoing for quite a long time here.

The wind has also died down a bit although it remains rather cloudy at the moment but the Sun is now doing its best to break through as has usually always been the case this year.

Last night was still not particularly cold but it did end up being cooler than of late with an overnight minimum temperature of 9.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Currently around 9°C here in Edinburgh
