The temperature here in Edinburgh is now up to around 27°C but at Charterhall which is the only major Met Office station in the Scottish Borders, the temperature has now reached an incredible 30.8°C which makes today the hottest day in the Scottish Borders since that very eventful day back in 2022 when they had their hottest day on record with a temperature of around 35°C.

What have left me feeling rather astonished though, is the fact that it's actually hotter even here, than in those parts of SE England which would typically be seeing those highest temperature especially given that even a few locations in Scotland are managing to record a 30+°C maximum today which is something which even Jerry in the south of Edinburgh might even end up reporting today as the temperature at his local weather station at Swanston has now reached 29.1°C as I write.

A real difference from the south - just 23.8C at my local station but the cloud is breaking up.

15th day of 30C for the UK in 2025.

Indeed, still stuck at 19 C under gloomy overcast skies here at Folkestone and actually is feeling quite clammy and chilly for it. Quite remarkable given the 20 C uppers very close by to here. Hopefully I'll have better luck with seeing the sun tomorrow and should still be very warm despite less warm uppers so I'll be able to break out the garden chair once again - at least before the return of the north easterlies bring daytime temperatures down to near normal values for mid-August by the weekend, but likely to be still dry and bright.

My French PWS just hit 40.3C. Hottest I've recorded, beating yesterday's 39.6C.

I wondered if it was over-reading as it's much hotter than nearby Macon (currently "only" 38C) but I think it's Kosher because Saint Yan airfield, a similar distance to the West, is reading 40C, as is Nevers and it gets hotter Westwards until the pre-frontal shower line over the Auvergne. So I think we are getting a bit of classic warm conveyor action.

Well Swanston in south Edinburgh has reached 31.1 C which could be an all time record if confirmed 🥵

Charterhall in The Borders has also reached 31 C

Strathallan to the NW has reached 29 C so I suspect by the end of the day Gogarbank might be approaching 30 C

32.4C at Bramham seems to be the highest I can find thus far. Only 5 miles from here as the crow flies.

On a train from London to Leeds and slowly turning brighter as we head North.  Was warm but cloudy in Central London with a couple of showers around.  32c in the garden at home on the PWS making it the warmest day of the year.

Today could still be the hottest day of the year so far at Gogarbank, but we will now need to wait for the 18z raw BUFR/SYNOP data to tell us whether that has been the case or not (even if it isn't, this has still been our hottest day of this month so far and our second hottest day of the year so far).

Still not managed a 30c this year.

Almost got there again yesterday, and after a warm night (19.7c min) it looked like today would be the day.

However after rising to just over 28C at noon it dropped back and never recovered.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is confirmed as 28.7°C which is just not quite high enough to give us our hottest day of the year so far and the frustrating aspect of this is that we missed out on that only by a mere 0.1°C on a day in which the south of Edinburgh (at Swanston) had its first 30+°C maximum since 19 July 2022 and according to Jerry's reports, possibly its highest temperature on record (albeit with those records only going back to around 2014).

However, we only need tomorrow's maximum temperature to reach or exceed 25°C for an official heatwave to be recorded there and as I write, the latest Met Office forecasts are still going for that even though tomorrow is being forecast to be not quite as hot here as the last couple of days.

I see that certain parts of the UK are still hot. Today Leuchars near Dundee was 28.8C at 15:00 . Down here it feels like the summer heat is starting to fizzle out. The last couple of days have been much cloudier and in the "warm/very warm" category. Tomorrow is forecast to hit 28C but I'm not confident about that really. Beyond that it's looking more like average for the time of year (slightly above to start with and then slightly below later next week).

Of course, there is every chance that we'll get more heat some time late in the month or in September, and I notice that GFS is still bullish about temperatures in the high 20s for a while longer. As ever, time will tell.

With the change of wind direction which has resulted in the wind no longer coming in from off the North Sea today, the botanic gardens in Edinburgh are actually warmer today than of late with a current temperature of 26.2°C so if only that temperature was swapped with the current temperature at Gogarbank, we would already have had that official heatwave in the bag by now.

24.0c here today so certainly a good deal cooler than yesterdays 33c. Lots of cloud around, humid feeling but that has cleared recently and sunny spells now with the temperature climbing.

As I write, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is now up to 25.1°C which now officially confirms that the first official heatwave of the year has now been recorded there, so there is no longer any need to wait for the 18z data to confirm that.

This heatwave is forecast to end tomorrow as tomorrow's maximum temperature according to the Met Office is currently predicted to be no higher than around 23°C but even with that, we would only need tomorrow to be a bit warmer than expected for this heatwave to then extend into a fourth day and given what this year has been like, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if that ended up happening.

There was a brief hot/very humid interlude earlier, the temperature shot up a couple of degrees in a few minutes, then fell just as rapidly a bit later. There was no change in visible conditions, sunny throughout, the only thing that changed was the wind direction (which became SE'ly for a bit). The chap over the road has a weather station too and his recorded something similar.

The high is 28.8 here as a result - I expect Brogdale will do well today!

This heatwave will be remembered for many wrong stuff happened, cloud, rain, temps failed to go high on places that was supposed to get and some places went near cold temps in the far south despite highest 850's over there.

29.3c the high yesterday in Northolt,  that's the 6th or 7th 29c max we've had this year.
