Awaiting reports of Storm Floris
War is God's way of teaching Americans geography - Ambrose Bierce

A dull and and overcast start to today and just for a change, we finally also have some rain to start today (not from Storm Floris in this instance as that isn't expected to arrive until tomorrow) after what has felt like an eternity of constant bone dry conditions all the time.

Certain members such as Jerry from the south of Edinburgh will no doubt be unhappy with this morning's conditions (although they will no doubt get their own way this afternoon when the rain is expected to clear away with the temperatures getting to over 20°C once again), but although I will welcome some dry and sunny weather at times, I was getting a bit sick and tired of seeing constant dry conditions all the time (this isn't the Sahara Desert after all) so this morning has brought about quite a welcome change in my books and I'm sure that our growers and farmers will also appreciate this bit of rainfall as well (I'm sure that even Jerry will be more than happy to accept that given the massive rainfall deficit for this year which we are still being faced with here in Edinburgh).

Last night's overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 15.1°C, so last night was quite a lot warmer than the previous night.

Currently around 16°C here in Edinburgh

15.1, sunny with a light westerly breeze. The overnight low was 11.9 - below average for once - and yesterday's high was 22.3 (also below average).

As I write, the rain is already clearing away with blue skies moving in to replace that once again. In addition to that, very little in the way of actual rainfall has been recorded from that and so the deficit continues to get even bigger here.

I have the webcam on the Lock of Lowes running - all seems calm there just now, but I can hear a bee buzzing in the background. 😁

Today is now our warmest day of this month so far with a temperature of around 21°C, and we're back to those all too familiar constantly bone dry conditions once again with plenty of sunshine around.

The sun feels scorching today. It's another beautiful day and 21.5 C here by 1330

Goodness knows what 50-70 mph winds will bring tomorrow 😳

A pretty strange day here weatherwise, albeit not that dissimilar to yesterday except for the DP, which made it feel muggy again.

Mostly cloudy through till 3pm and a max around 21c and then the sun started to poke through more and more. 5 drops of rain all day.

The actual max was at 5pm at 23.9c, and it's still 23.5c now, max DP today was 19.9c. With the breeze it has actually felt very pleasant this afternoon.

Today was our sunniest day of this month so far as well as our warmest day of this month so far as the maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank reached 22.0°C with a total of 9.9 hours of sunshine.

However, it has now already clouded over here in Edinburgh ahead of Storm Floris.

Currently a rather humid 18°C here in Edinburgh

Well, it had looked for a while as though it was clouding over but even that cloud has now broken up to leave us with a mostly sunny evening.

That is typical of what this year (including this summer, albeit to a slightly lesser extent) has been like and it just seems that there appears to be no escape whatsoever from those almost constant dry conditions which have dominated our weather throughout most of this year.

Currently around 17°C here in Edinburgh

Storm Floris has arrived here in Edinburgh and it is currently raining as I write. At the moment, the rain is very light but a total of around 5.0 mm of rain has fallen from this system at Edinburgh Gogarbank so far since around 3am BST (02:00 UTC) this morning with probably more to come before the rain eventually clears away later on.

For now, there is no wind to speak of but there is a while to go before the official yellow and amber warnings even start, so I am expecting the winds to pick up later on especially as the rain clears away.

Last night was slightly cooler than the previous night with a minimum temperature of 11.6°C.

Currently around 14°C here in Edinburgh

After a very stuffy night (a "lovely" 19C dewpoint upstairs in the evening and overnight), and clear skies for dawn, it's now partly cloudy and calm (yes, really, but it won't be long before the wind picks up!)

17.6, dew 15.9, the overnight low was 15.9 and yesterday's high was 24.1.

As the rain has cleared away, the wind has picked up with maximum wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank already reaching around 43 mph from the SSW.

Regardless of what's going on though, the Sun usually always finds a way to shine these days and the temperature usually always finds a way of getting above 20°C here even against all the odds. Apart from the odd blustery shower at times, we are getting some decent sunny spells at times and the temperature here in Edinburgh is already at around 18°C, so yet another 20+°C maximum could still be in the cards for today even though this is not something which is actually forecast to happen today.

Wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank now up to around 60 mph from the WSW, thus making today our windiest day of this summer so far and our second windiest day of this year so far (that is only beaten by the exceptionally high winds of over 70 mph which we had with Storm Eowyn back in January).

The Sun is still shining, but with occasional blustery showers still coming through at times.

In addition to that, the temperatures are refusing to rise any further (so no 20+°C maximum today) and have actually dropped back a bit to only around 16°C which isn't even the least bit warm for this time of the year any more.

Managed to scrape exactly 21c today, sun is out now after a heavy shower at 5... just at puppy feeding time, perfect, not!

2.2.mm for the day, feeling humid now even though it is 19.65c currently.

Another sticky day down here - relief is coming, but I doubt the rain gauge will be troubled when it does.

Breezy from the SW, overcast, muggy.

21.2, dew 18.4; the high was 23.2.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 19.6°C so despite the conditions, we still weren't all that far away from getting yet another 20+°C maximum today although that highest temperature was actually recorded in the morning before the cooler air moved in.

Meanwhile, a total of 5.4 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as I write. This evening is mostly sunny but still very windy with the winds at Edinburgh Gogarbank still gusting up to around 55 mph from the west.

Currently around 14°C here in Edinburgh

Mostly sunny with a bit of a breeze making the roughly average temp of 14.8c feel very pleasent.
