Goudhurst on the Kent-Sussex border was the highest official station yesterday at 10mm, but there are local reports of serious flooding in the Hastings area.

What's your total for July so far?

The really interesting one would be the total from the Canterbury area. The Met Office end-of-month climate charts will be worth a look - I expect there to be a small area of 300% rainfall near there. 

The rain in East Anglia and the S.E corner was well forecast adding a welcome 2.1mm to the total. We did manage to plot our way through the heavy rain that fell to our East and West though!

The latest water scarcity report for Scotland was released yesterday by SEPA and once again, the results are mixed although the affected areas are slightly different from what they were in other recent reports.

In summary, there has been some rain in many areas which has helped to improve the situation in those areas but not everyone has had that rainfall which means that in some places, the situation has actually deteriorated slightly.

To begin with, the Western Isles and the Orkney Isles have had their status upgraded from normal to early warning status.

However, there is an area around Aberdeen which has had its status downgraded from moderate water scarcity status to alert status. Nevertheless, there is no change to any of the other areas including East Lothian which were and still are on moderate water scarcity status.

In the north of Scotland, one area has had its status downgraded from alert status to early warning status with the area around Inverness being downgraded to normal status.

For all parts of Scotland which are not mentioned above, the status remains unchanged from last week with Edinburgh remaining at early warning status.

The late-July mini monsoon continues with 5.2 mm yesterday and 2.2 mm this morning. That brings it to 106 mm so far for this July.

Yes eastbourne too . I live at Polegate just north of eastbourne and recorded 24 mm . A frien of mine 2 miles away in stone cross recorded 39m .

84mm looking like the final total for July. Very nice to have an above average month for a change. 

97.3mm here. Largely dry beginning and end with much of that falling in the middle. 

The yellow warning appears to have been set way  too far north as things stand. I am slap bang in the middle of it and as is usually the case the downpours which are affecting the Oval are running east along the Thames and south affecting Kent but 10 mile south of me. This is the usual pattern and the M4 corridor seems to apply to rain as well as snow! The only way I will see thunderstorms today is if there is sufficient local convection later the day.

EDIT 1500 - has now eased up but MetO rainfall prediction is that it will resume. I feel sorry for those up at 'Glorious Goodwood'

Here in Edinburgh, there hasn't even been any recorded rainfall since my last detailed post on here and this means that this month's rainfall in this part of the world is now returning to being below normal once again at the very time when we need to be getting a sustained run of wetter than average months in order for us to return to normal status as regards to water scarcity.

All of that is reflected very well in this week's report which shows that as a result, there isn't a single area in Scotland which has had its water scarcity status downgraded from last week. Indeed, even the Shetland Isles has now had its status upgraded from normal status to early warning status.

Apart from that though, the water scarcity status elsewhere in Scotland remains unchanged from last week with Edinburgh and the Borders remaining at early warning status whilst East Lothian remains at moderate water scarcity status.

44mm is our total for the month.

Well in the end there was two brief but quite heavy showers lasting about 10-15 mins, one early morning the other in the evening giving 3.7mm. I suppose every little bit helps!

Up until 31st we were on around 30mm but the last day saw a good 50-60mm fall! ⚡⚡🌩️

7mm yesterday meant we finished on 35mm, slightly less than June.

At this time in any given month, I usually post a detailed report which gives the final totals for that month. In this instance though, there is absolutely no need to do that because the final total and number of official rain days in July is exactly unchanged from the figures in my last detailed report which I have quoted above.

The only changes from that report are the number of dry days which are 15 days for this month, 31 days for this summer and 122 days for this year.

Overall, July was yet another drier than average month within what is turning out to be a very dry year hence the issues with water scarcity which has resulted in SEPA placing us on early warning status for that.

Following on from five consecutive dry months, at long last we got a very wet month.   Total rainfall for July here was 103mm, nearly double our average for July.

Most of the month's rainfall came in two major bouts.  The first on the 6th giving us 34mm,  and 53mm falling in just 5 days from the 19th to 23rd.
