Not been so bad as expected today. Reached 31.2C under clear blue skies but my closed door and window regime stood up well and it was kept down to 26.8C indoors. For once the proximity of the N.Sea worked in my favour and a pleasantly cool breeze sprung up late afternoon making it safe to venture into the garden thereafter. Already down to 21C by 9.30pm.

32.0C was the max yesterday at Ross-on-Wye.

I think that was the eighth 30C day this year, and today is the ninth: 31.4C at Astwood Bank the highest so far.

Looks likely that today will be amongst the top ten hottesr ever recorded in Wales and possibly into the top 5.

Now 34.2 at Astwood Bank. Amazing that the Midlands are hotter than almost anywhere in France and even hotter than most of Spain today! Not a sight you often see:

I thought yesterday 33.4C was going to be the peak but today it reached 34.6 at 17:05. Must be some extreme thermals around as it's been raining clumps of hay all afternoon.

It's our old friend coming to spoil the party John

There's a slight easterly drift for the weekend which will cool Edinburgh, especially the Airport and The Botanic Gardens, maybe Gogarbank? Swanston may do better and Glasgow should be hot.

I'm in the Yorkshire Dales from tomorrow until Monday where it's forecast to be 28, 29, 28 and 25 C. A bit too hot for long walks 🥵

I was watching this afternoon's live stream from the Met Office on YouTube and it would appear from this that the issue regarding Sunday appears to be with a low pressure system approaching from the east rather than (or possibly in addition to) any actual easterly flow. If that is the case, this could result in it cooling down slightly a bit more generally, and not just here on the east coast although it would still be the east coast which bore the biggest brunt of that.

Beyond that, the Met Office forecasts appear to be going for another warm-up towards the end of next week, though not to the threshold of a heatwave just yet.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Thankfully none of the 34C+ forecast for here a few days ago although I'd already said I didn't think that would happen. So peaked at 31.2C on Thursday and yesterday was a bearable 29.3C (!). Doubt I will get past 30C again in this heatwave which makes a change as I am usually in the hotspot but the N.Sea has come to the rescue..

The BBC 5-day Weather forecast for London looks dubious at best. It's got 26c and rain for Wednesday and 28c with rain for Thursday.

I'd like to see an all time Wales top ten temperature day. 33.1c is the figure to get to for 10th spot - we were 0.4c shy of it yesterday.

Here's the Welsh top ten - surprisingly low and makes you realise how extreme 2022 was as an event.
