18.8C. Light NW wind. The (welcome) heavy rain the BBC were predicting for here less than twenty-four hours ago is a sliver of inconsequential precipitation to the east and over the Channel. Dry and partly cloudy with some brightness aloft.

Cloudy again and 12 C with showery rain

June ended up warmer than average here with a mean of 14.4 C (+1.4 C). It was yet another sunny month with 197hrs (120% of average) and a drier month with 68.3mm (90% of average) No heatwave though, just one day of 28.8 C

These figures are from Swanston SEPA site in south Edinburgh which began recording in 2014

A dull, damp and dreary start to today here in Edinburgh with not even a single hint of any brightness and with light rain now just setting in.

Currently around 12°C here in Edinburgh

12.8C here this morning has been 2mm from patchy rain.

Decided to set my telescope up late last night for a spot of astrophotography. That  di the trick. No sooner did I fire it up than the cloud rolled in! But to my delight some big drops of rain started to fall and with such heat and humidity around I sniffed a downpour. Nope, stopped 30 secs later. When I awoke there was a small puddle on the conservatory roof. I thought that's a good sign. On rising I see that  it rained at 4am and 6am giving the grand total of 0.6mm !! No flash flooding then.

21.6C at midnight falling to 17.3C by 6.00am. Currently a refreshing 18.3C. Two rain bands on the radar atm. One travelling well to my west and another which will probably just miss to my East but potentially if it widens a bit I could catch it. Still at least I will be able to do some outdoor jobs today after yesterday's 34.3C at 3.30pm.

Steady heavy downpour  here for 30minutes or so - easing a bit now - just after 10am.

Dull, murky and gloomy where I might have to turn lights on indoors, very different look to this time yesterday. Still bone dry and humid, though, but that may change soon going by the radars. 18.6 C & mid-90% H but very little wind. Incidentally I managed a peak of 28.1 C yesterday.

Damp day today, varying between Drizzle and a steady downpour. A nice, comfortable, 16.4c. A big difference from the last few days but will happily take it after the furnace heat we've just experienced.

Judging from the water in the butt and various containers, I'd say we have had 2-3cm of rain today. The downpour before noon made such a noise we could hardly hear our instructor in the exercise class. R.

Steady rain and a 12 C maximum so far today. 🥶 I thought yesterday's 15 C felt cold!

Infact Edinburgh is just about the coldest city in Europe again. Some parts of Northern Norway are colder perhaps

It's felt significantly fresher today with a nice breeze.

25.5C

But crucially a dew point of around 11C is what has made the difference.

A generally cloudy day today, with 1.0mm of rain in the morning.

The max so far is only 20.8 (which is nice - it's still 26C indoors), but for now the dewpoint remains high, 17.3. At least it's not in the 20s, I guess!

The cloud is forecast to break up in a bit and I reckon that's when the fresher air will finally arrive.

A shocking July day here. 7 hours of rain just finished, still only 12 C as a maximum. No sun yesterday or today

It did so yesterday here in NW Edinburgh and as I write, it has done so yet again with the earlier rain having now cleared away.

With that, the temperature here in Edinburgh has now gone up to around 15°C but given that we are now into what is supposed to be high "summer" and our warmest month of the year on average, that is still very poor fare.

As John mentioned, after hovering at 12 C most of the day we've had a rapid improvement from late afternoon and a 5 degree rise to 17 C ☀️

This is normally when I report today's maximum temperatures on here but I can't actually do that at the moment because as I write, the temperature has now gone up to around 17°C here in Edinburgh with some late sunshine which actually makes today warmer than yesterday now and even though it's late evening now, the temperatures have still not yet actually peaked for today.

In addition to that, a total of 1.6 hours of sunshine was recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 6:40pm BST (17:40 UTC) this evening and even yesterday, there was still 0.7 hours of recorded sunshine there which further proves the point which I keep on making about the Sun usually always finding a way to get out in the end, regardless of how the day has panned out overall, and regardless of how bad the weather has actually been in any given day.

It has been a bad day as well because the rain which has now cleared away resulted in a total of 21.8 mm of rain being recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank over a period which spans 2 official Met Office observation days based on a 9z to 9z day as the wetter than average summer at Edinburgh Gogarbank goes on (I know that's not quite been the case at Swanston where June was actually slightly drier than average as confirmed by Jerry's reports on here).

Fine and clear. Still feeling hideously swampy at 18.8 C despite humidity being in the mid-50% with a bit of a breeze. Today's rain didn't really amount to that much at 2.0 mm, nowhere enough to revive my increasingly parched lawn.

Showers are approaching from the west. We had 13.3mm of rain yesterday (24hrs to 0900GMT at Swanston)
