The GFS has 30C for 10AM, MetO raw has 29 - the reality is 25.8, as a sea breeze has arrived. Hope it stays all day, but it won't.

Overcast, very breezy (thankfully) 24.5c in the garden. Should be a bit cooler here today, after yesterdays furnace heat! Good luck to those of you further south. 😎🌡️

Much fresher today.

Sitting at 18.5c and overcast now.

It's only 14.7C here you would think with such a gradient there'd be a tornado zone.

34.4c now

Edit:16:00

Wind gone round to the south and temp has dropped slightly

Temp 32c

Dew 21c

So the dew point has risen markedly in the last hour and it is extremely humid

Here there's some slight haze here over the hills, but that's all. (Two pics from the garden - one showing the hills to the north, the other showing the view through the trees. It's noticeably cooler in the shade amongst the shrubs and under the trees, but even so - still sweltering!

It's now 30.8, dew 23.5, with the odd puff from the south. The high so far is 31.9, thankfully 3C below the 35 that both MetO and GFS had here today. The personal stations in Sittingbourne, a few miles to the SW on the mainland, are all showing 36s and 37s, so it was a narrow escape!

FWIW, SSTs off Sheppey are 20C at the moment! And off Essex they're 21C. Even with a brisk wind off the sea it'd struggle to fall to average (which is 22 this time of year).

15 C is our maximum today. Jumpers and coats are the order of the day up here. There will be some surprised tourists disembarking from the London trains! No sun today at all and very gloomy

Unlike on other recent days, today has been a day in which the temperatures have been generally refusing to rise here and as a result, today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was just 15.7°C which isn't even the least bit warm for this time of the year any more.

Earlier on today, I saw a few pictures of the King and Queen arriving here in Edinburgh for their annual stay at Holyrood Palace and to them, these cooler conditions must have seemed like a real shock to their system given the really hot conditions down south in particular.

For me though, I'm just glad that it doesn't feel anything like as stuffy in my flat as a result and the weather hasn't actually been as bad as the forecasts had suggested.

I haven't even seen any of the drizzle which Jerry mentioned this morning and it has been completely bone dry here right throughout the day despite the ongoing forecast of showers.

In this year in which Sun just will not stop shining, the Sun always finds a way to be seen in the end, regardless of how the day actually pans out and to a certain extent, that is happening yet again with a number of sunny spells coming through at times. This means that although it's still mostly cloudy, I don't really consider today to be all that gloomy.

Currently around 14°C here in Edinburgh

A very stuffy night has given way to a generally cloudy morning, with the traditional lack of wind. The radar showed a couple of light showers passing over in the early hours but nothing fell from them, it's just as dusty as ever. There was a marked drop in temperatures around half an hour ago, suggesting a front going through, finally clearing out that exceptionally humid plume from yesterday.

It's 19.1, dew 17.6, which is the overnight low so far. Yesterday's high was a late one, 32.9, as an onshore breeze picked up and destroyed the thin layer of maritime air that was over Sheppey.
