A stifling morning gave way to a typical summer afternoon - roasting hot, searing sun, people doing DIY in their gardens, children screaming and - yes - the putrid stench of someone's BBQ wafting down the street. (The smell of cooking meat unfortunately makes me gag, to me it's like sniffing manure or rotting fish).

There is a gentle SW'ly breeze, which is anything but refreshing, and it's humid as hell.

Currently 29.0, dew 21.7, with a max so far of 29.6.

(And I miss the 90s. Not only was a hot day then 25 rather than 30, but there were half as many buildings on my road, bungalows instead of houses, and they were full of nice old ladies - no smells, no noise, peace, quiet and the ability to sleep at night. Aah!)

BBQ's is a very masculine thing. It is usually males that do the cooking outside (they need to be seen doing it) while it is typically women who do it indoors. Never seen the point of BBQs myself. What's wrong with popping a chicken leg in the oven without all the showy fuss?

Didn't get any higher than 22.6 C at this end of Kent, and while there were good periods of sunshine, sea fog kept ebbing and flowing and right now is actually quite misty making the current 18.9 C feel cool and fresh in a mod SW breeze.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is officially confirmed as 21.2°C and as at 6:40pm BST (17:40 UTC) this evening, a total of 7.1 hours of sunshine was recorded for today so far as at that same station. As at that same time, this leaves us needing a total of only at least another 7.1 hours of sunshine between now and the end of this month in order for this month go down as being sunnier than average there and with tomorrow in particular looking sunny according to the latest forecast, that is something which is now looking likely to be achieved quite easily even though this month hasn't actually been as sunny overall as other recent months.

Currently around 17°C here in Edinburgh which is actually not as warm. as it was at this time last night although it still feels just as stuffy in my flat here in NW Edinburgh.
