Conclusion

Overnight minimum temperatures in May 2025 were slightly below average with a very rare official air frost even being recorded, but the daytime maximum temperatures were very substantially warmer than average and because of that, May 2025 was a warmer than average month overall.

May 2025 was a substantially drier than average month in terms of the actual rainfall amounts with all of its recorded rainfall occurring within the final 9 days of the month, and it was also much drier than average in terms of the number of official rain days although the month ended on a much wetter note.

Finally, May 2025 was a substantially sunnier than average month and was our third sunnier than average month with February 2025 being this year's only duller than average month so far.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Very dry, 23mm to finish off an exceptionally dry Spring. Very Sunny.

Only the second time in my records we have managed a mean max of 20c in May, exactly 20.0c on the nose. Lockdown 2020 holds the record at 20.4c. June used to often struggle to hit that 20 years ago.

I managed to get out fly fishing every week/weekend in May, that's the greatest sign of how good the month has been given I can mostly fish on either a Friday or at the weekend.

9.5/10, didn't quite hit the 30c, but that's splitting hairs really.

May 2025 was a remarkable month to finish off a warm, dry and sunny Spring.

Swanston, just to my south, had 304 hours of sunshine which is 156% of their average. There were 15 days with over 10 hours and 3 days, 15th-17th with over 15 hours! There were no days without sunshine ☀️☀️☀️

It was warmer than normal with the Mean Temperature at 12.5 C which is 2.1 C above their average. The highest temperature was 22.4 C on the 11th 🌡🌡🌡

Again, another dry Spring month. Rain on the 23rd ended a 27-day dry spell. Only 7 days of rain at the end of the month with a total of 30.2mm which is only 51% of their average
