For me, my bedroom window faces east which means that at this time of the year, I tend to have very bright sunshine streaming in from the very early hours of the morning, so I have darkened curtains fitted on that window which are very much needed to keep that sunshine out, and thus allow me to also be able to enjoy a lie-in whenever I can, and whenever I want to.

That has already been quite a major issue during this spring, and will only become an even bigger issue as we approach the summer solstice in June, especially if this really sunny weather keeps up.

This morning is no exception to that rule with bright sunshine here in Edinburgh from the word "go" yet again, following on from a clear night.

As we are now just over a month away from the summer solstice though, we are now starting to enter the time of the year when the nights are so short that twilight actually lasts all the way through the night, due to the fact that even when the Sun is at its furthest point below the horizon in the middle of the night, it never gets a chance to get far enough below the horizon for the sky to become completely dark due to the nights being so short. That isn't easy to spot just yet, but that will become more noticeable over time from now on, especially if we continue to get clear nights as we are doing just now.

Even with those very short nights at this time of the year though, those nights can still get rather chilly and last night was one example of that as the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank dropped to just 3.7°C with a ground frost even being recorded.

However, the temperature here in Edinburgh has now recovered to around 9°C in that very bright sunshine, and are forecast to get quite a lot higher yet again.

I was up at the crack of dawn. Chilly at 6C with light airs from the north.

Sunny and calm with blue skies again.

Dull under this North Sea clag that is taking its time to break down (it was starting to brighten up this time yesterday). Also feeling rather cold and clammy-like at 14 C & mid 70% H even though winds are almost calm.

Chilly again today I see it was 10.9 a few minutes ago but this morning didn't get above 10C with fine drizzle once or twice.

Certainly felt the breeze the last few days, and at times it has felt chilly out of the sun.

The maxes this weekend were 18.7c and 18.8c (the latter, today) so respectable if not exactly that warm.

23.2c here after a high of 24.4c, which is similar to the last few days. If this was in late June or July, I imagine temps nearer 30c or above would be occuring.

After a chilly start to today, the temperatures then reached around 18°C by the latter part of this morning, but then refused to rise any further after that due to a brisk wind from off the North Sea which means that today has ended up being cooler than other recent days here in Edinburgh.

There is also a lot more in the way of cloud around now which means that today hasn't been as sunny as yesterday overall, although there are still decent sunny spells coming through at times.

Meanwhile, the temperature has now dropped to around 12°C here in Edinburgh.

What I like about this dry spell is that it is relatively cool and comfortable at night time and temperatures have been falling to single figures most nights, despite day time highs of 22 or 23c. I like these cooler nights. I am concerned about the lack of rain though.

Currently dry and a temp of 10.5c in Okehampton.

There is the odd break in that cloud which has led to the odd brighter interval and even a very brief glimpse of the Sun.

The forecast has today remaining cloudy and even cooler than yesterday with even a small chance of light rain or drizzle for a while but given how this spring has gone so far, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the Sun still managed to break through with none of that light rain or drizzle occurring, and with the temperatures ending up being higher than what has actually been forecast for here.

Turns out that today's forecast has been right after all on this occasion.

There were a few sunny intervals earlier on this morning, but today has been mostly overcast with a few light showers. These showers haven't amounted to much and have only made the surfaces a bit damp but even that is something which we've not seen here for quite a long time.

There is also still a wind from off the North Sea and a temperature of only around 13°C here in Edinburgh which isn't even the least bit warm for this time of the year any more.

Warmer today at 19c and mostly sunny.  Seems quite random at the moment whether the day will turn out sunny and warm or when the sun does break through whether it will stay cold with the North sea wind.

Second day running we've had cloud move in overnight, before it begins to disperse through the morning. Yesterday it was all gone IMBY by 10am. Today in Manc (bit further east, nearer to the Pennines), it wasn't till early afternoon.

A much fresher but a very pleasant feeling breeze (what Shelly would have called a' living wind') than recently with more moderate but still warm temps.

Another dull and overcast start to today here in Edinburgh and unlike yesterday, there isn't even any hints of any brightness this time.😡

Currently around 10°C here in Edinburgh

EDIT:

Also unlike yesterday though, we've not had to wait for long for the Sun to once again break through and once again, this is turning into yet another nice day in this spring in which the Sun for the vast majority of the time has just kept on refusing to stop shining.

As a result of that, I have no doubt that today will probably end up being a lot warmer than yesterday although at the moment, the temperature here in Edinburgh is now currently around 11°C.

Clear and sunny at home and going to be a lovely warm day. 29th day with no rain , 1.5mm on the 22nd April was our last rain and only 9mm in April overall.

On train to London dressed for summer but should have checked the forecast, might see some rain.

My rain gauge has just tipped for the first time since 5th May with 0.2 mm so far today here at Folkestone. Hope to catch a possible localised thundery shower later today with my parched lawn to mind.

Other than that, rather overcast with a chilly feeling 14.7 C & low-80% H but winds are light. Quite a contrast to yesterday's max of 21.9 C and sunshine.
