1995 was the best year for my data recording and so interesting but some few frustrations as well.

Arrived back to UK from a snowy Palmdale, Ca in early Jan 1995 to deep frost here and my thermometer which I left it outside was -10C the lowest.

Didn't see any snow events in Epsom area but was very wet winter.

March quckly dry out and got better and nice Easter weekend in April both months recorded few rain days so very dry.

Heatwave in early May reached 32C in my garden, follow by drop to 7C max in mid month back to 30C at end.

June was NE dominated at the first few week tollow by 30th June heatwave which recorded 35c in my garden and 21C last night.

July was a hot month with day time temps 27-35C and at night 20-21C 14 times which my mom have to change my pillow cases every 2 days due to sweat, we had no fans that time only opened window but no help.  A one day cool day in mid July that drop to 7C at night allow us to breathe of relief to sleep well at night.

Went to Cyprus end of July to 1st week of August so missed out the 35C heat in August as I am sure my garden was 36-37C possible.  While the plane was a bit delayed at heathrow, we were feeling very hot inside due to baking hot sun shining on the aircraft as their AC was not turn on yet until the engines start.  Arrived to Nicosia did not feel any diffference from Epsom and having AC in our rented house we slept good.

Arrived back 2nd week of August to see everywhere beautifully parched, stinging nettles all dead and good riddance.  River levels drop very low after high flow from the wet winter earlier on.  Hot month but night time not that bad as July.

Sept was a terrible month with rain, cool and no warm spell at all so a carbon copy of Sept 1976.

October indian summer lasted nearly 4 weeks with temps of 15-26C days and some frost at nights.

November shortest Autumn lasted just 1 month from around 25th October to 25C November before winter set in with some snow at end of the month.

Dec was very cold but very frustrating with lack of snow and potential -15C or below predicted for Xmas night failed due to clouds refusing to clear until 8am which cleared and temps dropped sharply to -9C just before sun rise so was a wasted.

Failed heavy snow event at the end of the month with freezing rain instead.

1995 was very interesting year. If i was asked to choose 1995 or 2022? I go for 1995, don't like 2022 at all horrible year with lot of overcast skies and hot same time. 2018 are 2nd to best after 2006 and 2003.

It's interesting to see the forecast for July 30th with a lightning symbol over the west of Ireland. There was thunderstorms reported around that date with 'ball lightning' witnessed by many at the 'Galway Races'.

Love those old forecasts and great to see old faces like Bill Giles and Phil Avery and the great Ian MacAskill. Now the BBC seem to employ figures who are not trained meteorologists

1995 was a pivotal year for me personally, my last year in school and first year at uni.  Weatherwise, of course I will never forget that incredible Summer heat that went on and on. I remember the fireworks on the Thames to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of the war in August. The heatwave was still going even then and it was a sultry night.  We had some relatives staying with us at that time, and I remember eating dinner in the garden every night and lots of BBQs and wasps getting in the way!

And then December produced that great cold spell after Christmas though we didnt get much snow and then it broke down with the freezing rain event. That was awful. First time I had experienced it

I remember the summer really well. Our non-aircon'ed office (Civil Service) was sweltering. I took over being the union rep after ranting at the incumbent (who I thought was too cosy with management) and immediately kicked off at the management, firing all this health and safety stuff at them.

Next day we got a load of large fans delivered and I felt like a proper revolutionary hero 🤣🤣🤣

Funnily enough, I don't remember what we did for a holiday that year (other than not going abroad cos we were skint)

Also have a strong memory of that Xmas, too. Took me totally by surprise to wake up to bright sunshine and a carpet of white (albeit only about 1cm deep). I recall the sky being a particularly dark shade of sky-blue. Was our second Xmas in our own house and, as was the developing custom, we visited my parents late morning then onto hers for the afternoon & early evening, then back to my parents to meet up with my bro and his girlfriend for the rest of the evening and stay over.

The the roads were so slippy. that morning and the drive was down the A580 where there were clear tyre tracks in the inside lane and the outside lane completely untarnished . We inevitably caught up to a driver doing about 20 (it's a 70mph dual carriageway) and I moved out to overtake, only to lose total grip. Luckily kept it straight and only very gradually moved back over to the inside after getting past him; relieved when I'd done so.

The year I turned 18, and a great year for weather. The summer just went on and on. Glastonbury was a corker that year: Pulp, Oasis, Ash, Elastica, Veruca Salt... those were the days.

The summer of 1995 is still the best one I can remember for sheer persistence of sunny and very warm/hot weather. I was 15 that year and the only years before then that stick out in my mind for having decent summers in my part of the world are 1989, 1990 and 1994. The summers of 2003, 2006 and 2018 are the best ones I have experienced here this century thus far, but 1995 beats them all for persistence of good weather.

As has been noted above, 1995 was also not bad year for cold and snow fans too at both ends of the year!
