I've not been taking much notice of the output for today, so am surprised to have a light snow shower now.

There's been a little hint of a thaw this afternoon, though. Most disappointing! The lying snow seems unaffected, but some of the frozen slushy stuff has softened.

That's the killer with British 'wintry spells', they almost always don't last anywhere near long enough!

Some light snowfall now here from the NW so should not melt fast sa other 2 snow events.

Same thing happened in Dec 2023. We had the lightest of dustings and yet it lasted a week. If we had got proper lying snow we would have had some great conditions.

Snow is now dripping from the roof for the first time since Sunday night.  Temp up to 0.6c and cloudy.  Our skylight windows in the back room are starting to clear, never seen them covered for such as extended period.

We took the dog for a walk south of Warrington, just around 10 miles south east of our house.

Snow was still a good 7-8cm deep.

I'm not complaining about our lot here, but it's uncanny how just to tne south of here - as I've said before, only literally 2 miles south west of my house had about three times the depth of snow we had.

It's not the first time I've seen this phenomenon. There's no geographical reason for it (altitude is very similar, for instance)

Anyway, the walk was beautiful. One last serving of snowy wonderland before the miserable thaw properly sets in to wipe out the snow. 😥

In the end I think it turned out a better cold spell than most of us expected, especially for the north and Scotland but even parts of the south and west were briefly temporarily surprised. Who would have thought that GW would have made the milder areas more prone to snow than the traditionally snowier eastern regions. Nevertheless even here it has been a better than average 5 day cold spell with temperatures only above freezing for a few hours here and there and some decent hoar frosts.

Snow grains falling at Painscastle, near Builth Wells in mid Wales whilst I was there today.

Also drove through the Brecon Beacons -:looked beautiful with freezing fog above 300m or so all day.

Currently living at roughly 65m asl North of Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Formerly of, Birdlip, highest village in the Cotswolds and snow heaven in winter; Hawkinge in Kent - roof of the South downs and Isles of Scilly, paradise in the UK.

My stepdaughter and family drove from Seatown in Dorset this afternoon and said they'd driven through a short spell of snow.
Previously JimC. joined back then in 2009. Frome, N/E Somerset, 125mtrs asl.

As I write, we currently have an ongoing shower which has just turned to sleet and wet snow here in NW Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

I'm now noticing that the Pentland Hills to my south in the distance are starting to take a slight covering of snow thanks to some showers which are still continuing to filter through the Forth-Clyde Valley from the west as Storm Eowyn continues to move away to our north.

For here in NW Edinburgh though, these showers are sadly mostly falling as rain with nothing more than a bit of sleet and wet snow mixed in with that at times.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
