Another awful day in Perthshire. Brutal wind which died the minute the rain set in, earlier than forecast. Managed a 30minute walk in the mud. Currently a mild 5 Celsius and very wet.

A thoroughly wet, wild and miserable start to Hogmanay morning here in Edinburgh with the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank now gusting up to around 44 mph from the SW/SSW.

Meanwhile, our increasingly long frost-free horror show goes on with the temperature here in Edinburgh now up to a pathetically mild 10°C.😡

Highest wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank now up to around 47mph from the SSW and it's still absolutely chucking it down with rain here.☔️

Still very dark here, hasn't got properly light by 10am!! Lamps are needed in the house!

Lashing rain with a strong SW wind. Been a poor few days up here and I can see why they've cancelled Hogmanay

Off down to Leith tonight, hopefully it will be colder and clearer by then

I'll take this opportunity to wish TWO a Happy New Year and let's hope for some interesting weather in 2025 😁

Mostly cloudy with some sunny breaks 9.6c. I also see we're back in a yellow warning zone for wind here for the early hours.

Here's to wishing you all a safe & Happy New year!

Dull and damp with occasional light rain, noticed it's also quite windy so it seems that the airflow isn't having enough of a SW component for my house to be sheltered by the nearby built up hilly bit - yet this is just the start! Mind you, I have experienced/forecast worse in the past.

The rain has now cleared away and the skies are much clearer now with plenty of blue sky around though still not in the right positions to allow us to get any significant amounts of sunshine.

It's still fairly windy although it's not quite as windy as it was earlier on and we've had far worse winds in recent times than what we have seen today.

As a result, the organisers who cancelled tonight's Hogmanay celebrations might well be kicking themselves for doing so if the weather ends up being relatively calm by then, especially given the vast numbers of people from around the world who had planned for that as Richard just recently mentioned in another thread although I'm also not suggesting for a minute that these events should never have been cancelled.

Meanwhile, it's another very mild day here in Edinburgh with a temperature of around 11°C.

Windy, and the sideways drizzle has just started.

This is supposed to be peak-wind around now, with gusts to around 45mph. Forecast to die back to gusts in the low-30's mph, then stay around that until late tomorrow.

I went out in the garden earlier to tie a few things down (redid all the furniture/BBQ covers securely)

The wind is really picking up here, however I can't complain too much as I got a wash load mostly dry outdoors, but almost got taken out by the rotary line, because the wind is a lot more fierce than when I hung it out lol.

It's gradually getting windier here too, and the depressing thing is it's only going to get worse, hour by hour, until lunchtime tomorrow! It's gusting into the mid to high 30s at the moment, and that will be the base wind speed in another 18 hours. Deep joy.

Aside from that it's been disappointingly drizzly today, no sign of the sunny spells all afternoon as shown on the MetO automated. It's mild, too, at 10.2, dew 8.5.

Rainy and breezy here now. Hovering around 10°C at the moment, and not excessively windy either.

It feels like a fitting end to what has been, meteorologically, a very wet and dreary year.

Happy New Year to everyone here on TWO and I hope that 2025 will be a good year for all of you.

It may well be the start of a new year but our frost-free horror show goes on with the temperatures once again refusing to drop.

Yesterday's rain has largely cleared away now although there are still a few showers around.

The wind has been very slowly decreasing over time but it is still fairly windy and the decision to cancel the Hogmanay celebrations here in Edinburgh was probably the correct decision in those circumstances.

Currently around 8°C here in Edinburgh.

Happy New Year to all!

It's started just as the old one finished - windy, verging on very windy, with gusts into the 40s and a variety of clonks, whistles and rattles from outside. This will only increase over the next 9 hours or so, very much a day for the noise-cancelling headphones I feel!

It's mild too, 11.0, dew 8.7, with the overnight low so far being 10.7. Yesterday's high was 11.8.

Just blustery light rain, with the heavier stuff still to the west and north. Temp immaterial.

And Happy New Year to all of you too.
