It's -2 C in Edinburgh and the frost and rime is still on Blackford Hill and Arthur's Seat from the night before last. I'll assume it will be below freezing at 0900GMT which means that yesterday was an official 'ice day' in Edinburgh (Max -0.5C). Two consecutive ice-days have occured in the Glasgow area!

It's a lovely morning here, calm with a rosey glow as the sun hits the medium level cloud

Such a shame the Atlantic is back in for the run up to Christmas

Very Mizzly here with dripping branches, 7.7c and calm as you like! Which makes a big change to last weeks blowfest at least.

We went below freezing at 3pm on Monday 9th ,and we still are below freezing at this point 🥶, average temp this week -2.9 C lowest -7.5C . A pretty long cold spell , a a fairly large area of the grampians is similar.  I wonder if it would qualify for cold weather payments 🙄🙄.

Normally, I would finish these reports by giving the current temperature here in Edinburgh but on this occasion, I'm going to start with that as the temperature here in Edinburgh is currently around -1°C.

That in itself is nothing special because with that, I would just normally say that an official air frost has been recorded but whilst that is true, we actually had more than that yesterday as the latest temperature also confirms that our first official ice day at Edinburgh Gogarbank since 13 December 2022 has just been recorded for yesterday which was also our coldest day since then and this means that yesterday is probably now looking likely to go down as our coldest day of this year in the final statistics for the whole of 2024.

However, last night wasn't as cold as the previous night as the overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was only down to -2.4°C with much less in the way of actual visible frost on this occasion than was the case yesterday although there is still some frost around. You could therefore say that last night was very much like the winter opposite of a day in summer which is a bit cooler and fresher than the previous day with the temperatures reaching the low 20s instead of the upper 20s.

Apart from that, there is still some cloud around this morning but today has started off on a much brighter note than yesterday with some decent spells of sunshine. With that though, today isn't expected to be quite as cold as yesterday so I'm not expecting another ice day today.

Now that I've just reported about yesterday being an official ice day at Edinburgh Gogarbank, I can already confirm that there will be no ice day here today as the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has now gone up to +0.4°C.

Now at 80 hours and counting below freezing, average this week is -2.7C , average now for the month of December 1.9C .  Not a real deep freeze, but a pretty consistent cold spell to say the least. All ends at weekend though as tropical air arrives again.

Very overcast as it's still pretty dark out for the time of morning, it's usually a fair bit lighter than this.6.8c and calm, so far as I can tell. The birds are having a good tweet though.

Calm but the drizzle continues - 0.6mm so far today, 1.0mm yesterday, on both days the MetO raw gaily proclaiming a "<5% chance" of precipitation! Same with GFS, of course, it seems the models can't handle North Sea drizzle.

It's a fair bit colder than of late. 4.3, dew 3.6, last night's low being 4.2. The high yesterday was 7.9.

Interesting to see we're now pulling in - briefly - proper Continental chill down here as the winds become ESE'ly. Langdon Bay is reporting just 2C, and it's fallen to 3.8C here. Calais is 1C.

Continued cloudy and clammy. Like others say, I thought it felt distinctly "raw" when I collected my freshly emptied out wheelie bin and my weather station confirmed it with 2.7 C & high 80% H (1 C DP).
