Wind became alarming loud last night as the rain band took a firmer grip, but it didn't last long. Breezy out there now but nothing out of the ordinary for an ordinary November evening.

The winds have shifted into the SSW here - having been a straight south or even SSE'ly all day so far - and there's been a definite notch up in wind speeds. The nearby yacht club recorded 50 recently, for example, the previous high having been 43 all the way back at 9AM.

The models generally show a peak coming late tomorrow morning - with the winds finally dying down in the early hours of Monday.

I was running in this this morning. I will say this, in my entire life I have only regreted I think 3 runs. Regretting a run almost never happens because no matter how hard or awful there is a sense of achivement, endorphines and so on. Today was one of those days I actually regreted it. Horizontal sleet with icy freezing cold water getting me absolutely soaked. And I did learn today that if sleet pelts you hard enough it can actually hurt like hail. I also learned that it actually is possible to get colder on a run rather than warmer (and this did not happen when I ran at 5am a few days back and the thermometer read -9C). The thing that made this so perilous is that it was fine before the snow turned to sleet and the wet covering became slushy swamp land and I ended up in this crazy situation where I was worried about going hypothermic because I was so wet but couldn't even run back fast to the warmth because I was sliding all over the place.

I was in the yellow warning zone but was actually scared for one of the first times in bad weather.

Up to this point the rainfall here is nothing like it was modelled or forecast. Long way to go though

I see the latest 18z GFS run are showing slightly upgraded winds speed for my neck of the woods with a hair breath of 70 mph gusts during the course of tomorrow, but other models are showing lower figures. Today hadn't been that dramatic after a blowy start, in fact right now it's almost quite calm! 12.4 mm of rain has fallen today, which again isn't that exceptional.

And at the last minute (7:22 this morning to be exact)- finally! - the MetO issue a yellow warning for more than just the coastal strip down here.

Given the transport incidents and accidents going on yesterday, it's at least 24 hours overdue. I still don't know what took them so long - all I can think of is that they were distracted by the snow up north!

The only good thing really is that at least we've set a new date record for warm temperatures.

Speaking of warm temperatures, it's quite amazing how warm that wind is out there. I've just ventured out into the garden to pick up one of my new raspberry plants, that was blown over, and to move some items so that they don't take off and blow away. it's pretty remarkable since it was still bitterly cold 24 hours ago. You could be mistaken for thinking it was spring, heading into summer type wind.

Astonishing temperatures last night. We switched the air con on in our room because it was so warm and opening the windows made it too noisy due to the wind. Horrendous.

It is windy here too at times but we seem to have lost the really mild temperatures. It is currently seasonal 7.5°C here (and the snow cover of the last week has gone).

I'm currently in the park in Bishop's Stortford and a tree has hit a train . The Stansted express going to Liverpool St. Train going nowhere fast lots of firemen standing around.

An almighty gust just now has shattered one of the neighbour's tatty old fence panels, which has collapsed into one of my trees - and as he has dogs, he's got to fix it now, at long last (I told him last time it was windy that it was going to break, but he pleaded poverty... annoying, as I know he's loaded, having just sold a Bentley!)

More trees down today on the railways in Kent, on the M2 (again, and on the 2-lane section too), the A249 at Detling - all over the place.

Not a good day to be out and about, and I can't wait for these poxy winds to bugger off...

We were awoken at 4:30am with rain being drilled into the windows as that squall line passed through accompanied by gusty winds, strongest gust was 65mph.

It seems that this squall line separating the warm and mild air masses caused a few problems across the country.

Any reason why there hasn’t been a greater warning today, the river next to me is now recording the highest levels ever at the station? This rain even is crazy here in north Oxfordshire and it’s still hammering it down.

It is odd about the lack of amber warnings, especially for south east Wales and perhaps one or two areas in England too. As already mentioned the warmth was amazing and what made it exceptional was, combined with the wind, how drying it was.

There's a definite argument to be made  for an Amber warning to have been issued early in South Wales and probably a flash one in the Bristol/Chippenham area as the event unfolded.

Definitely haven't covered themselves in glory this time.
