Had some sleet / wet snow with fairly high DP’s of 3 degrees. Nice to see (DP might be slightly wrong) but had turned back to rain

Woke up to heavy snow and good inch+ of snow in rural North Bucks, lovely wintery scene. Completely unexpected although models had picked up the possibility last week it was dumbed down quite a bit.

Here in my part of Sheffield, there's been about 5-6 inches on cars and up to several inches on the pavements/roads/gardens

Main roads are all clear that I have been on, some of the side roads a little bit more tricky, particularly on the higher parts of the city

A few white bits in amongst the rain now, as a heavy pulse has moved through. I suspect it's actually nearly-melted graupel rather than snowflakes, but as graupel requires a snowflake to start with - it just about counts! 😂

I did go outside to check, but just got soaked.

The temperature's fallen slightly, 4.4, dew 3.5.

It was all white here before midnight but the only evidence this morning is some slushy patches in the front lawn, anything coming from the sky at the moment is just cold rain.

A not too unexpected 5 mins of snow here on the back edge of some heavy rain at 8.20am. I seem to remember a few people predicting that possibility. Temperature was 2.1C and DP -0.7C at 10.00 am so not that surprising.

As expected, schools here are closed but daughter-in-law managed to get our granddaughter to nursery, (after we’d built a snowman on the garden).  Eden’s nursery is on a farm a couple of miles away, down a remote lane but the farmer had cleared the snow, so it was passable.  

The main roads aren’t bad either, a bit slushy in places but fine if taken a bit slower.  There’s a fair bit of standing water along roadsides, so it’ll be bad tonight if it freezes, as forecast.

This has definitely been an interesting spell so far, and certainly it's been the earliest widespread snow event for quite a few years. November snow tends to be patchy, not a good bulk of the country seeing it they have this time.

Talking locally, whilst it's melting, last night's covering is still holding on here. That is quite interesting in itself because in recent years (apart from major cold spells like December 2022), snow tends to disappear quite quickly, even in January. To go through a full day in November with it still hanging on feels quite noteworthy.

At work this morning we had sleet for several hours but the wife said they had several hours of snow with a couple of heavy showers also on my way home I follow a lorry that had maybe 2 inches of snow on the roof so somewhere it must have settled, not forecast so surprised.

It has been snowing on and off for much of the afternoon here (including just now) but with slightly milder temperatures it is a bit wet, although is still settling on all surfaces/existing cover.

I agree, this has been a noteworthy event.   Checking back through my records, this seems to be the earliest significant snowfall in the Winter season here for at least 42 years, possibly a lot longer than that.  A few other years saw wintry weather around Nov 20-21, these being 1985, 1986 and 1993.  Of these years only 1993 produced anything close to what we've seen over the last day, up to around 4cm total snow compared to 5cm this time.

Even here in Hants we did end up with a spell of quite heavy wet snow, proper snow not sleet or graupel. It was far too wet to settle, but nice to watch.

Surprised how much of the snow has gone today, despite only a high of 2.2c. We only have a thin covering on just over half the lawn left from 5cm this morning.  Must be the warm ground temperatures so early in the season.
