Fantastic aurora for down here, some of the strongest reds I have seen, although obviously better through the phone camera.

As close to a frost as you can get, a min of 0.0c about 5 mins ago.

Now I live close to the aerodrome I certainly notice how much colder it can be here than when we were 60 metres or so higher on the greensand ridge to the north

Still frosty on the shaded rooves here at 10 a.m.

All of that came after a total of 7.8 hours of sunshine was recorded during the day at Edinburgh Gogarbank but despite those clear skies and a cold start to the night, the temperatures then refused to drop any further as the wind then picked up.

As a result, our wait for our first official air frost of the season goes on and not only did we not even get a ground frost, but we didn't even get close to that here.

We were supposed to get showers today though but as yet, these are nowhere to be seen and apart from some high cloud, it's ended up being fairly bright and sunny once again, and probably sunnier than what it was forecast to be.

According to weatherobs.com, the temperature everywhere else in the vicinity is still well down in single figures but here in Edinburgh, the temperature is already at around 10°C, probably as a result of some form of urban island effect even though Edinburgh is only a very small city in terms of its area and official population.

As a result, our wait for our first single figures maximum of the season looks likely to go on even though our temperature hasn't actually quite reached double figures just yet.

I can report that Edinburgh Gogarbank has just had its first single figures maximum temperature of the season, but only just and no more as the official figure for that is 9.9°C.

Today got off to a fairly bright start but there was then a period of heavy rain which gave way to showers for a while although all of that has now cleared away.

Currently around 7°C here in Edinburgh.
