Line of storms had formed over southern England this evening.

Also a weather warning out for tonight with a risk of more moving up from France overnight.

Just having a couple of flashes and nearby rumbles at the moment.

Earlier they skirted just to the south of us here heading west then we had one heading straight towards us, by the time it got here we had one boom and then it died a death. Hopefully the one leaving Hampshire that's heading this way stays active long enough to see something, doubt it but fingers crossed.

Huge crack of thunder just heard!   Didn't expect this.

Some very powerful and blinding lightning strikes with very loud thunder continuing here!   One strike produced instant thunder.  Have to say that I've not seen lightning/thunder that strong for quite a few years.   Heavy rain accompanying this.   Totally unexpected event!

I was looking for this thread an hour ago.  We had a lovely thunder storm with some good flashes, cracks and constant thunder.  Sky was black but we dither much rain.

That said, there's plenty of activity pending for Kent.... There has been a rumble over Tenterden, the other side of Kent - and there's a very active cell heading this way. It's one of those situations where one area will have torrential rain and hail, whereas just down the road it'll be a bit of light rain...

EDIT: And just been a faint rumble from it here. First storm of the year!

Had a cheeky thundery shower flit through here at Folkestone at 7.15 pm, a short spell of heavy rain (2.0 mm in a few minutes) and a couple of forked lightning. Did wake me up from my pre-telly soaps grandad nap. 😂 That rounded off what was a decent bright day with plenty of sunshine but I noticed how the air felt heavy and muggy for a max of 16 C.

We had 7.2mm of rain here from that storm - far more than the GFS' 0.6mm forecast!

A torrential thundery shower crossed Manchester city centre about an hour ago. I heard the rain and thunder in work.
