However...this is not the thread to discuss Rooneys behaviour. Maybe we should start a seperate thread for Rooneys outburst and those who feel the need to post about Rooney or about SAF / Man U without referring to actual team performances, results, play, tactical decisions etc may well feel at home with their own thread

United worth their win - bossed the first half bar the closing moments where Chelsea all but scored but didnt - the blues came into the second half a bit more - and how the Evra challenge on Ramires is not a penalty is beyond me - in the closing stages - ITV showed a replay of the incident and the linesman on the touchline behind the goal

had a clear unobstructed view - stonewaller if ever there was one. They also made the point that United have never lost a european tie after winning the first leg - so Ancelotti must make history to avoid the axe from Roman Abromavich

United worth their win. Shocking non-penalty decision by the ref.

Man Utd played at a better tempo even though Chelsea created some decent chances.  I thought Torres was unlucky - it was a great header and a great save.

Chelsea is capable of winning at Old Trafford and of scoring more than once so it is far from over.

Looking forward to both second legs next week, should be a cracker at Old Trafford and, as for Spurs, no pressure, no expectations and, hopefully, a decent performance to round off what has been a fantastic first season back in the Champions League for the "Lilywhites"!

Talking of misses, how about probably the most famous one of all time, Pele v Uruguay in the 1970 World Cup? I certainly don't claim to be anywhere near as good as the great Brazilian, but I reckon I'd have scored this one!

Going into tonights game Man U have the slight advantage. Chelsea however are more than capable of turning Man U over and it will be interesting to see how SAF sets his team up, does he look to contain Chelsea and hit on the break or go for a more attack minded line up and go for a goal that would probably seal the match..?  Yossi Benayoun could be a key player for chelsea.

My Man U team for tonight

                                                          VDS

 da Silva                       Ferdinand                           Vidic                          Evra

Valencia           Carrick                Anderson                Park                     Giggs

                                               Rooney

Man Utd: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Giggs, Park, Rooney, Hernandez. Subs: Kuszczak, Brown, Berbatov, Smalling, Scholes, Valencia, Gibson.
Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Alex, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Essien, Lampard, Anelka, Torres, Malouda. Subs: Turnbull, Benayoun, Drogba, Mikel, Zhirkov, Ferreira, Kalou.

Very suprising team selection from SAF with only one recognised central midfielder ! Chelsea could well overpower this physically weak midfield. Looks like SAF wants a goal or two tho..... hmmm not happy with this selection.

Well i guess SAF got it spot on !!!! Chelsea only really in the game when they went down to 10 men, but Man U rarely got out of 2nd gear they didnt need too.......far to easy and what now for Ancelotti and Torres ???

United again worthy winners.

All tonight confirmed for me is that 'Fat' Frank can no longer cut it and Chelsea have too many ageing players. Malouda, what a waste of space. The one bright 'oldie' was Drogba. He looked up for it. A pity he didn't start because the outcome may have been different.

Torres. Tick tock, tick tock.

14 Chelsea players weren't able to handle three singularly outstanding performances from Giggs, Rooney and Park........

Media reports suggest Ancelotti was forced to start with Torres because the Russian crook was making one of his ulra rare appearances at an away game.

I must admit I agree with those who said Drogba should have started the game. Torres, FWIW, is more suited to Spurs, which at least has a more creative midfield.
