Eskdalemuir was up to 31.3 at 3pm and it's 236m up!

As you say though, it's hard to get an 'official' record if there's no 'official' stations

Here in Hawick, the temperature has dropped back slightly in the last hour, and appears to maxed out at around 34°C.

I have just very briefly ventured outside and when I did so, I was like walking into a massive furnace and I have never experienced anything like that in my entire life before.

There is a lot of high cloud around, but also some spells of sunshine but the sky looks very heavy, and that sunshine is very hazy and typical of what we would typically expect just before a summer heatwave breaks down in thunderstorms.

In addition to that, a slight breeze is now starting to pick up.

There are some official stations not all that far away from here which are recording similar records to what we are experiencing here but rather frustratingly, all of those stations are on the other side of the English border from here.

This means that despite the fact that today's maximum temperature was above the Scottish record here in Hawick that lack of official stations down here look like scuppering our record chances which is very frustrating indeed.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh is making a very late and unexpected bid for its own local record as the temperature up there has gone up to 30°C at Edinburgh Airport and around 30°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, but I have a feeling that it is probably a bit too late for that, although you can never rule anything out in that regard.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

34.8C here, down from a high of 36.4. Doesn't really feel any fresher but I expect to feel the cooler air start to arrive in the next hour or so.

Egg update. Left it in the frying pan in the sun for 2 hours. Ended up with crystallised dried egg but I wouldn't say it was cooked exactly. Won't be recommending that recipe.

Went outside into a very shady spot, was about 40.5C according to a mechanical thermometer.

Very wierd with strong dry winds.

Can believe it though, felt nothing like it before.

Disbelief to be honest that the record has been beaten by such a significant amount.

You would expect maybe smaller amounts but over 1.5c just unreal

The size of the record breaking area also very significant.

As Q has said even with a strong breeze very bizarre.

As Warren mentioned temp around here has been climbing again after a dip earlier. Now 38.9c (not 100% accurate as gets affected by the sun but not far off I imagine).

Meteorologist Paul Hudson’s personal station in Leeds. Yesterday it recorded the same maximum temperature as the official Bramham station so is fairly accurate, but of course it could be over-reading today anyway.

Keeps just nudging up at the vineyard. Finally hit 39.0C at 4.11pm.

It's on an East facing slope and typically peaks early, so this is incredible.

Its still edging up. 36.8c. There can be no frustration expressed today about the 'what could have been'.

It aligned perfectly.
