39.1C in Charlwood.

Think 40C is pretty much guaranteed with another 3 hours to go.

It looks like a very slight cooldown has just got underway across Somerset. Continued records are up for grabs until 5pm across the east.

I've never really fully trusted data from airports either. They nearly always record higher temps than other nearby stations.

Seem that Yorkshire not leading the heat so far.  I notice all my stuff inside the house even radiators are very warm, 33-35C inside and 38C outside.

Five airports at 38C on the 1120Z METAR: Cambridge, Heathrow, London City, Lakenheath and Northolt. Gatwick only at 37 so a way short of Charlwood.

Any ideas when Brogdale reports it's maxes, from memory it's the following morning? Could be one to watch.

38.4C at my FARS-equipped station... utterly insane to see those sorts of temperatures.

It's a crying shame there aren't any easily accessible official stations north of the Downs.

It's also a shame the red warning wasn't extended to Kent, considering we've been in the firing line on the models for days!

Uppers should start to heat up in the Yorkshire area over the next hour. So I expect we will see temps catching up in this part of the world soon.
