Lots of places have recorded rises that quick. Don't think the rise that quick means its necessarily faulty

Apparently Charlwood might be faulty. It went up 4.1c in an hour

Well Meto going with it, so they clearly don't think it is faulty, even here between 10 and 11 we had a rise of 3.7c
39.1c at Charlwood according to Met Office Tweet!
Edit, never go on Twitter but just went and searched Charlwood to see the rumours and there it was.

Difference between it and Gatwick is more of a question mark for me than the rate of rise. Guess we will see how it performs over the next few hours, met office are obviously happy enough with it at the moment.

My PWS has dropped by 0.4 degrees in the last 20 minutes, to 33.5 deg C. Is this the very leading edge of the cooler air already? Or a change in mixing? The skies are cloudless, wind direction SE.
For what reason? He can't just make that statement without saying why?

Isn’t Charlwood very sandy soil?

Temps pegged back here from a high of 35.5c down to 35.1c. The wind is changeable but generally moved round to a SSW from SSE direction, and gusting to 20mph.Slightly crazy if we get to 35.5c at 11:30 and still miss our record here of 35.8 set in 2019...

Obviously. Are you being deliberately pedantic?
All people are saying is that it’s questionable given the rate of rise. Don’t worry though, even if this isn’t somewhere will hit 40c
It’s clearly academic, it’s clear the record will go somewhere else.
Almost certainly, but IMHO it’s far from ‘academic’ to find the record maximum temperature record broken before midday - which is, in terms of the sun’s position in the sky, before 11am.
My thermometer just touched 39c briefly - its on a north-east facing wooden surface.

He might be wrong. Hopefully as this is incredible before midday
