Don't bother about the Met stations if they don't record, as long if your garden does that enough, They bad enough removed weather stations know as hot or cold spots.  What about Tonbridge weather station? none I assumed because that place I always believed was reached 38.1 100.5F in 1868 as i read on Kent weather book that summer was very sunny every day leading to 38C.  This time we don't get clear sunny days in advance.

It is running about 4C ahead ATM, if it keeps up should beat yesterday and the record and maybe even 40C. If only the weather were that simple though.

Yeah, not sure what the earliest time of day 30C has been reached is! On the 0800 BST obs, Gogerddan (near Aberystwyth) was the first to hit 30C today with 30.2C.

Does Tonbfidge have a station or anyone from here from Tonbridge?  they hold the record long time ago and driven pass that area and always see my car thermometer rise and then drop after passing it.

Already 30C at Manchester Uni.

Been there in Dubai but no clouds under cutting it, but problem here the clouds under cut and strike at hottest time.

This time yesterday it was 22c.

5c head start on yesterday.

On that premis, that could mean we hit 41c today as we maxed out at 36.3c yesterday.

Min ended up colder than expected at 16.8C which fell well short of my personal record of 17.9C in July 2009 and the Aberdeen record of 19C in August 1959.

Up to an exceptional 25.1C already but yet again seriously unimpressed at the amount of cloud which could well scupper any chance of a record 

Sick to death of cloudfest 21st Century summers. Not one of them can hold a candle to 1976 or 1995. Not one 

They already are. The amount of whinging I have seen from them far outweighs any actual complaints about the weather. I think there must have been an article in the Daily Mail or on GB News telling them to kick up a fuss about the colours on the weather maps, as that seems to be their latest complaint.

If you look for them you will find them. My advice, don't go looking.

Wasn't that hot here before 9.00 AM yesterday.

High cloud, though, in advance of the Cornish TS's.  I think you will need to be further east than here  to topple the record.

It also reminded me of a business trip to Qatar in early April many years ago: an unpleasant intensity of heat and blazing sun.

The daily max is actually recorded at 9am (10am BST) each day and then forwarded to the Met Office. So if a new record was set, it wouldn't be officially known until after 10am today. Although you would think someone would have gone and had a little look yesterday 

Dropped to 19.1C in my garden last night. We've had warmer nights and in fact it was quite comfortable in our bedroom with a bit of a breeze and the fan on

I remember in my childhood being told that Tonbridge held the record for the highest temperature recorded in England, but (IIRC) since then this record has been discounted as invalid because it was taken at an amateur weather station in a garden in the north part of the town, with a non-standard local situation which most likely caused the temperature to read too high.  I don't know when this decision was taken, or what record at which location was deemed to be the official maximum instead.

Already up to 32.2C at the vineyard. Never seen anything like it. Before 9am, and it's a hotter temperature than the station had ever recorded (admittedly it's only been up a year) before yesterday.

Same time yesterday it was 27C.

Did he give you a Gallic like shrug when you told him? 

I heard they'd given the weather observer a few days off because of the forthcoming heatwave 

 I think the change in wind direction midafternoon will limit the rise 

Also 32.2C at Heathrow at 9am. That's 90F on the dot at 9am. 

For comparison, in 2019 Heathrow was 28.8C at 9am. So 3.4C higher at the moment.
