Will definitely go tommorow.

But it will be somewhere in Yorkshire or lincolnshire.

Cambridge may have lost its day in the sun

Booo!  Imagine if it doesn’t go tomorrow either. Talk about an anti-climax!

Are we still on for a hotter day tomorrow?

My ammeteur cambridge proxy is down to 36.6C from a high of 38.8C earlier

Genuinely think the record might have survived. Not much left now in the tank.

No record then? I am a bit surprised if not given GFS was showing 40c a couple of days ago?

We won't get the final max list until just after 7pm when the synops come in. And even then some sites don't report the max online AFAIK.

Given that in 2019 some stations had 1.5C+ higher readings between hours, it's not dead yet. However you would think the Met Office would have tweeted, given that they announced the Welsh record almost instantly.

Increase in wind here has prevented any further rises. Both Vues are either side of 34C now after climbing to a max of 36.9C and 37.7C respectively.

To my relatively untrained eye, the very high uppers for that have been forecast for tomorrow for the eastern side of England, seem to have disappeared on the 12z GFS.  Not sure if that’s actually right and how much difference to a record it might make..

I think we will see 40c quite widely tomorrow, the models got it bang on near enough today, and showing 41-42c tomorrow. I'm dreading it as we got away with it down here thanks to SWly wind, but tomorrow is SSE that will be blowtorch.

So, maybe no UK record today, but amazing how many local records have gone, and over such a wide area.

Both the MetO and BBC are showing temperatures up a degree or so down here in Benfleet tomorrow, so fingers crossed for a 40c somewhere in the UK.

Brace yourself for the Twitter geniuses saying that the fact we missed the record by 0.5C (or whatever) means the planet is cooling.

34.3°C looks like it was the highest here. That's higher than anything I've seen, including when I lived in Manchester, IIRC.

The thermometer on the north wall still showing 35C which is the highest I've seen it go. It feels it too. And then looking at the widespread 35's around the country it's more than remarkable whatever anyone says.  I can't remember it doing this in '76.

The back lawn has been shrivelled today to a crisp. It's garden watch tonight.
