One fun one is that the hottest rain in the world ever recorded was 46C. Not out of the question we could see rain at 43C in Lincolnshire somewhere tommorow.

Met Office maxes, likely to be the final ones now, at least for stations which report every hour, 38.1C at Santon downham, 31.1C just came up short of the N Ireland record. 37.1C is the new Welsh max as reported earlier.

So the hourly 38.1C was also the overall max? What are the chances of that.

I'd say that's a near certainty, but still a bit underwhelming to miss the record after all this build-up.

Still, the overnight minimum record should be a shoo-in.

BTW amazingly the temp is now the highest it has been all day here, just before 6pm and 34.7C.

It does feel a bit underwhelming in that sense, but it's nice to see other parts of the UK being recognised for recording some exceptional temperatures. It makes a change from the usual SE seeing them.

A near continuous (more constantly regenerating) thunderstorm off the headlands of Co. Mayo this afternoon, so cold front not too far off. Can't wait for the much fresher air it will bring in.

I'd have thought the Scottish borders would have been the hottest bit of Scotland (Edinburgh just shy of 30c, the airport 31), but it appears the station at charterhall is buggered - seems a bit remiss. The next nearest station in Scotland is Edinburgh,

Topped out at 36.8° earlier on as far as I can see. Hot, but not uncomfortably so. Let's see what tonight & tomorrow brings.

We maxed out in Jersey at 37.9c and smashed the old 2019 record of 36.5c

We actually had hotter days last week in my location

Aboyne (well outside the warning area) reached 30.5⁰C and may be hotter tomorrow.

So next up, what is the minimum overnight record for UK which could fall tonight?

Due to the low humidity it hasn't really felt unpleasant. There's also been a bit of breeze. Subjectively it has felt a lot more bearable than past 36C+ days.

Minimum record to beat is 23.9C I believe.

Yes, there is a gap in observations in the Scottish Borders, not sure what has happened to Charterhall, doesnt seem to have reported for about 3 weeks now.

There is a site at Floors Castle, Kelso (Borders). This site doesn't often report on the day though and normally appears a time afterwards. It was the warmest place in Scotland last month for instance as reported in the met office climate summary although the temperature wasnt reported on the day to the best of my knowledge. Could be the hottest in Scotland tomorrow.

No need to be nervous, it's pretty much done for tomorrow. Even your location will boil tomorrow due to the southerly wind and you'll be at 39-40C around 4pm tomorrow.

May only have been the 3rd hottest day on record - but what IMO is more remarkable is how widespread 36c+ temps have been recording

(remembering that in the famous heatwave of '76 nowhere hit 36c)
