36C looking widespread now. First checkpoint milestone is 100F. (37.7C)

Next is 1 July 2015: 36.7C. So nearly there too.

Then 37.7 100F. Then 37.8C which beats the July 2020 heatwave and puts us into second place for July behind 25 July 2019.

Then 38.5C to go up into second place overall.

Finally 38.7C to equal 2019.

Check your wind direction, as here it has gone from a SE'ly to a WSW'ly over the last 20 minutes. Maybe a small heat low forming ?

This would raise your temp rapidly as air from the mainland sweeps across.

Just seen the Meto have tweeted there is a 95% chance of breaking the temp record either today or tomorrow.

(The fridge is now making a protesting loud noise, as is the portable a/c. As it's now above 35C, and the a/c only works up to 35C officially, I'm expecting the worst... I think I did the right thing in booking that hotel for tomorrow!)

The extent of the heat is incredible, much more so than 2003 or 2019.

We have 32C+ currently in a big lozenge from Plymouth in the SW, all the way through Wales to the Lancashire plain in the NW, Humberside (and nearly Newcastle) in the NE and down the East all the way to Manston in the Isle of Thanet. And it's only 1.30.

Meanwhile in France it's 38C in Brest and 40C in Nantes.

I think we have a surge of hotter and drier air from the continent in the past 45 mins. Something of note to those further NW in the course of the next two or three hours The dewpoint has plummeted.

Given the raging plume is still firing in I reckon it will be a 5.30pm peak today for most.

35.8° here. Just done a 30 minute very slow walk around the locale. A beautifully hot Mediterranean heat. Come back into the house at 26.2° and it initially felt air conditioned. All blinds and windows shut. Love it. More please.

Just noticed, humidity at 18%. Wow.

I feel great! so maybe I might just

I think we'll fall just short of 40°C today, but I think it's bound to be a new record. My guess for today's high would be 39.5°C.

Yup, now losing this relative coolness by climbing quickly to 29.4 C (39% H). Starting to feel it indoors too at 31 C in my still shaded west-facing hobby room.

EDIT: Just touched 30 C. Think it'll get to a point where the outside is warmer than indoors.

Down to 31.8C and still falling. It really hasn't actually felt notably hot here today - we peaked at 33.5, which is a fair bit lower than in 2019 and 2020, but then today was never going to be a south-central England kind of day. Temperature inside is very bearable, with curtains and windows closed.

I think we will now see the peak of the heat move northwards, so don't discount a record yet in the Cambridge/East Anglia area.
