Min of 8.0C earlier which is rather chilly for mid July. Currently 13.5C light winds sunny with broken cloud. Today looks set to be a pleasantly warm summer's day. Goodness knows what the next few days will bring.

There is some cloud around here in Edinburgh, but this morning has generally started off on a bright and sunny note with a total of 42 minutes of sunshine having already been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7am BST (06:00 UTC) this morning.

Last night was a much cooler night than of late and the minimum overnight temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was down at 8.0°C.

That makes last night our coolest night of this month so far which makes it hard to believe that in just a few days' time, we could potentially end up experiencing our hottest day on record.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 7am BST (06:00 UTC) this morning was around 12°C here in Edinburgh.

Sadly, our bright and sunny start to today didn't last for long as it has now clouded over here in Edinburgh.

So much then, for that lovely weekend which we were supposedly going to be getting just now under high pressure.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9am BST (08:00 UTC) this morning was around 13°C here in Edinburgh.

Plenty of sunshine but am still feeling the benefits of the onshore breeze with 20.8 C currently at 11.15 am. Making the most of that with all windows open.

The clouds have now finally broken up here in Edinburgh, and the Sun is now back out.

As of yet though, it's still not all that warm and the temperature at 1pm BST (12:00 UTC) this afternoon was still only around 17°C here in Edinburgh so unless it warms up by quite a lot during this afternoon here, it's not going to be anything like as warm as what it was forecast to be.

There's a nice sea breeze here too, it helps that the "natural" wind direction is easterly today.

Sunny, 21.9C after a high so far of 23.4C.

Pretty much normal mid-July weather. The next few days will be anything but!

It did warm up a bit here in Edinburgh during this afternoon but rather frustratingly, it has also clouded over here yet again.

As at 5pm BST (16:00 UTC) this afternoon, a total of 6.2 hours of sunshine had been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Meanwhile, the temperature at that same time was around 21°C here in Edinburgh which is warm, but nothing like as hot as it might get within the next few days.

The relative freshness still hanging on here at Folkestone at 18.8 C despite plenty of sunshine and only variable high cloud. The mod E breeze has enough of an onshore influence.

Peaked at 22.7 C at 2.50 pm.
