Came home to this today...

Warmest of the year so far and the result of lots of sunshine over the past few days. It was 22C downstairs; it's taken a few days - I guess the new windows are helping to keep the heat out - but the run of 22C+ days has had the inevitable effect.

23C as a high today (with a fan-aspirated sensor in the garden), 25C the day before, 22C the day before that.

The portable a/c is, of course, on full whack upstairs...

FWIW, it's usually only 2 to 3 weeks between needing heating and needing a/c. The joys of having a shed for an upstairs!

An absolute sauna of a night last night (I turned the a/c off when I went to bed, due to storms being forecast - the hose has to go out of an open window). The morning low:

22.5c again in the coolest part of the house (hallway) this morning. Heat loss overnight was minimal thanks to outside temperatures of 16-19c  in largely calm conditions apart from some gustiness around the 1-2 am thunderstorm. Its cloudy outside now so we won't benefit from an early climb from the sunshine coming through the ENE facing windows. The sun moves around to the WSW facing windows from 1pm and the forecast this afternoon is for good sunny spells and an outside temperature of 22c. Yesterday it peaked at 23.6c in the hallway. Hopefully we can squeeze out a 24c in the hallway by early evening today if we keep the WSW facing french doors closed as we are expecting a moderate SW'ly breeze this afternoon.

Down to 18.9c here this morning downstairs warmer upstairs, pleasant but cooling off. Should warm up a bit today with the forecast sunshine later. But I think by the weekend we might struggle to achieve an 18c indoor temperature without some intervention from the heating again.

Not had heating on in the house, on a daily basis since the end of March, only on occasional very cold days.

Today's indoor temp in the downstairs living room is currently 22.6c

22.4c this morning in the hallway and will fall a little through the morning due to the relatively cloudy conditions outside. Hopeful for some afternoon sunshine to warm it up a little. Peaked at 24.4c early yesterday evening thanks to unbroken sunshine and the cooker in the kitchen !

I don't think the TV solution is on. As you say, TV & PC don't use much electricity, about 120 -150 watts. In my experience in a reasonably well insulated house when the gas boiler broke down, about ten times that was needed to keep a living room comfortable in cold weather.

You could always go back to 'when I were a lad' and plan for ice on the inside of bedroom windows to save energy. It was a common experience in the 1950s.

PS. For comparison, the resting human body produces about 100 watts of thermal energy, so pack your house with people. A party every night!

Much more pleasant yesterday thanks to the heavy cloud blotting out the sun for much of the day. 23C up, 21C down when I got in and a refreshing 19C by the time I went to bed a few hours later (with the windows all wide open in the meantime).

18C downstairs and 19C upstairs at the moment, perfect.

We've dropped a couple of degrees in the past 24 hours.

Hallway this morning sits at 20.7c.

Yesterday saw a lot of the residual warmth from previous days ebb away. It started at 22.4c but by mid afternoon it fell back to 21.6c. It was particularly cool outside with noon temperatures around 11c so as a result the damage wasn't too bad.

Some late afternoon sunshine and the cooker allowed things to rally, peaking at 22.0c but overnight has seen a slow but steady decline.

The sun's out this morning so hopefully the sun coming through the ENE facing windows will arrest the fall and hopefully add back a bit of early warmth.

20.8c this morning after an 6pm peak of 22.8c.

Strong sunshine in virtually calm conditions will make a good warming day today.

A breezier and cloudier few days after today. The more warmth today, the better !

21.8c this morning after a late afternoon high of 23.7c yesterday evening following the cooking of the Sunday roast and a sunny afternoon.

21.6c now and continuing to fall very slow due to the thick cloud today. Its still reasonably comfortable though.

Just under 18c in the house now, my heating won't be going on due to building work anyway, but perhaps the electric fire will be needed later, depending on sunshine amounts today.

18.1C inside, 14.8C outside.

No gas used since mid-April; the solar panels for hot water on the roof have had just enough sun to keep the hot water going (one sunny day or half day in high summer heats the tank enough to last hot the following day, and lukewarm yet another day)
