It's almost the end of October.  We've hardly had any daytime max below average and overnight mins have been on the high side for late July ....   And the mozzies are still biting!

I bet we don't get winter again this year

Countryside that you barely get to see or enjoy when you are stuck indoors working all week and the weekends are always crap  There was no colour to be seen on Deeside when I was there 2 weeks ago but I did notice more in the way of colour appearing in Aberdeen on Monday.

However I've barely been able to leave the house since then due to more ludicrously awful weather. Only managed to get out for a walk at 5pm on Wednesday and Thursday when it was practically dark already. A total of 25 minutes sunshine in 4 days

Given how utterly vile the past week has been it would be a tough ask for the weekend to turn out worse but by the looks of things outside that is exactly what's happened yet again

Yet another write-off weekend day of thoroughly unpleasant soul destroying rain, gloom and SE'ly winds

The worst run of weekends I can ever remember just gets more and more disgusting. It's beyond surreal.

Never has good weather been needed more than over the past 17 months but instead it has brought the most sustained period of utterly diabolical weather I have ever been subjected to. These months have all been ridiculously wet and/or dull:

June 2020

August 2020

October 2020

December 2020

January 2021

May 2021

August 2021

October 2021

At the same time really only 2 good months - September 2020 and June 2021 plus the week of snow in February and the brief heatwave in July. Everything else total garbage.

This month has to be the worst of the lot. A torturous endurance test for the incessant rain, cloudy mild grot and grotesque weekends. Last October was the pits and the 5th wettest in 160 years so I didn't think it was even possible for this one to be even worse. Rain total has been lower but there have been more rain days, a higher rain duration, less sun and worse weekends.

October is supposed to be the month that sees the most cooling from start to finish but yet again we have endured the same dire temperatures throughout. Instead of seeing the first frosts we ended up with stinking double digit minima which increased in frequency as the month wore on with the majority coming after the 17th

I would imagine a list of the top 20 worst Octobers in the past 160 years could primarily consist of 21st Century Octobers. Certainly 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2020 and 2021 all deserve to be on it. It's the month that's changed the most. No longer do we see the last warm, sunny days of the year or the first frosts. Just endless cloudy, mild, soggy muck and, despite rainfall increasing by a third, we hardly ever see gales/storms any more. Just this hideous, murky wet tropical maritime air advected over us on a sickening SE'ly flow. Nothing I detest more

Is it just me, but this Autumn hasn’t seen that much wind.

Yes, there have been breezy days, but no real gales, no gusts of 50, 60, 70mph etc. All the lows have tended to move through quite slowly, and not as I remember (maybe my memory is fading) where some Autumn storms are exceedingly windy and gusty.

Nowhere else is having to put up with such endlessly vile and revolting weather as we are suffering here. Nowhere

Last weekend the rain cleared rapidly from other parts and the sun came out whereas here we endured another abject horror show with both days being complete washouts and here we are at the weekend again and it's lashing down yet again

An unbelievably revolting average of 1.45 hours sun across the 10 vile weekend days of a repuganant October and yet more stinking ridiculous wet filth to endure. Why the hell are we suffering from this rain in this set-up? It's like the mountains that protected us in the past no longer exist and the climate has turned to that of Malin Head

Insufferable, intolerable, suicide-inducing crap on a daily basis. This past 3 1/2 months have been the worst I've ever experienced. I keep thinking I'll wake up and find it was all a nightmare because it's been so unutterably rank and horrible I can't even begin to comprehend how it could even happen in the first place.

One weekend day in over 3 months has managed 7 hours of sun and it's rained on almost every single one of them. There are just no words for a climate this vile. 'Living' here is a dnager to both physical and mental health.

There's just nothing to be enjoyed here at all. It's just a relentless ordeal. Day after day of pure poison. All week when the rest of the country was getting frosts we had to endure disgustingly unpleasant and mind-numbingly boring wind and rain. It's so ludicrous that even the heat island hellhole of Heathrow Airport has managed a lower temperatures than here this autumn.

It hasn't gone below 3.7C in this ghastly atrocity of a November so far. Never before have I recorded a first week of November that didn't go below that. Even in 2006 it went down to 1.5C, in 2011 to 0.8C and in 2014 to 0.1C. Those were the worst three autumns I've had to endure but 2021 is blowing them out of the water.

Horrific washout autumn that is devoid of anything desirable and nothing but more turgid crap in the outlook.  Once again proof that there is no floor on how low things can sink any more. Wonder if there will even be a frost this side of Christmas

I've been quite impressed with the potency of this week's Northerly (or north westerly). Definitely an improvement on the damp squib cold spells we've seen in recent years at this time of year. The air has actually felt properly bracing at times, and we've had a couple of decent hard frosts early doors this week.

I usually find November to be the most tedious month of the year for our weather. Usually it's too late for any burst of summer and too early for the interest of anything wintry, bar rare exceptions like late November 2010, or 2015. Add to that, we've just been plunged back into that horrible late afternoon darkness with the clocks going back.

I struggle to decide which is the worst month of the year. November or January?

Just the same abject horror over and over again on a loop. Not had even one sunny Saturday since I came back from my holiday at the end of September and what do we have today? More suicide-inducing, grey depressing, ridiculously mild crud

The lack of anything remotely cold is surreal, ludicrous and stupefying not just compared to a normal November but compared to Novembers which themselves were notable for a surreal, ludicrous and stupefying lack of cold like 2011 and 2014

Last year was the first time I recorded a first half of November without dropping below 2C. This year the lowest so far has been a preposterous 3.7C. Just unreal. Even October with it's ridiculous lack of cold managed lower readings. Kinloss hasn't dropped below 4C.

Almost all of SW England has experienced colder more seasonable conditions than the grot we've been subjected to in this region. It was 14C at midnight on Tuesday and the last two nights haven't even dropped below 8C

Need November to finish on 7.8C or higher to beat 2006's records and so far it's running at 8.0C  Just 10 dry days in the past 48

Unusable, uninteresting and unpleasant. Autumn 2021 has been the absolute nadir for weather watching

This has been the November from hell so far here. I hate November's anyway but this one is surpassing my lack of enthusiasm! We have had just 12 hours of sunshine in the last 10 days !! Day after day of grey darkness. We are now into our third consecutive day of zero hours sunshine. No frosts at all due to the endlessly cloudy nights spoiling all hopes of any astrophotography - usually a good time of year. Despite the forecasts of mild the perception of warmth in November just isn't there without any direct solar heat. I'd like to say at least it has been dry but the cloud has often produced that fine drizzle that soaks you before you've even realised it's raining.

Summer was pretty cloudy as well - what has happened to good old fashioned high pressures?!

Edit: Only one month in 2021 has had above average sunshine levels here.

Here in Edinburgh, it is ridiculously mild once again with a temperature of around 13°C as at 6am this morning. We all know that Richard from Aberdeen is hardly ever happy with the weather in his part of the world, but he will no doubt be especially unhappy this morning in that regard as it is currently even warmer up there. In fact, Dyce in Aberdeenshire was at 15°C as at 6am this morning making that the warmest place in the whole of the UK according to xcweather.co.uk.

Even here though, I have seen cooler nights than this even in high summer and yet, we are now less than 2 weeks away from the start of the meteorological winter. At the end of the day though, this has just been the autumn from hell here. We have still not had even a single air frost here during this summer despite the fact that parts of the south of England have actually had a few recent frosts, and we still can't even get a single daytime maximum temperature of less than 10°C here, even though such a temperature is now considered to be mild for this time of the year.

Although we did get a wet October, that has been shown to have been just a slight blip and the harsh reality is that we are developing an increasingly desert-like climate here in SE Scotland where it just hardly ever rains any more, like it used to. Instead, we just get day after day of almost constant grey skies with hardly anything ever happening in terms of our weather, which is even remotely interesting.

The harsh reality as well, is that we just don't get changeable weather any more like what we used to, and this has even led to Gavin P. has made a lot of comments in his most recent videos about the fact that we have almost constantly been stuck in the same Groundhog scenario with virtually the same static weather pattern since the latter part of the summer.

If that then doesn't drive a lot of weather into no longer being as interested in the weather in this country as they used to be, I don't know what will.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Weather has been completely boring here for weeks, 10c night and day, often gusty winds and drizzle.
Today is a bit warmer but also very windy and drizzly.

Every year I think my hatred of 21st Century weather has reached saturation point where it can't possibly continue to grow then along comes the unmitigated horror of autumn 2021 to blow that theory out of the water

This has to be the worst season of any name I have ever had to suffer. I just can't think of another where every single weekend has been vile.

Yesterday was unbelieavable. Like a summer day. Brilliant  sunshine light winds and 16.5C. Never known anything like it in late November before but of course was working all day so more or less unusable for me. The surrealness of yesterday pales into insignificance compared to yet another ridiculous vile, grey wet washout weekend day today

It just gets more and more ludicrous with each repulsive grey horror weekend that passes. It's now 5 weeks since Saturday even produced 2 hours of sun and since the end of July there has been just one weekend day that managed 7 hours sun

Weekend average daily sunshine hours for each autumn since 2007 ranked from highest to lowest:

2012 5.56
2016 4.57
2009 4.14
2013 4.07
2018 4.00
2020 3.84
2017 3.82
2008 3.69
2019 3.53
2015 3.49
2007 3.46
2011 3.22
2014 3.08
2010 3.02
2021 2.48

No surprise that 2021 is rock bottom by a huge margin and, most preposterously, it just keeps on getting worse and worse. There hasn't been one even half decent weekend day throughout the whole of October and November. Compared to the average of 3.99 hours for weekdays it's a disgrace - just 62%. The two worse seasons for the weekend curse I can ever remember within less than 2 years. At least in spring 2020 we did actually get sun at the weekends.

It's just mind-bogglingly awful, depressing and horrific as is the continuing lack of anything remotely cold. It's the 20th November and there hasn't been a single air frost. Not even coming close. It's four weeks since the low of 1.4C was recorded - before midnight with more mild grey crud by morning. Since then it hasn't dropped lower than 2.6C which is so terrible it's off the scale.

It just keeps getting milder and milder with 6 of the last 9 nights seeing a min of 8C or above including a ridiculous 12.4C yesterday some half a degree above anything else I've recorded in the 2nd half of November with the previous record being only last year

I wanted to throw something at the TV when I saw a forecast showing cold air coming down from the north resulting in a minimum of 5C. There are just no words
