Hi .......,

I hope you are keeping safe and well.

We have had even more donations of PPE this week and have some more coming next week, which is really helping us stay stocked up!

The residents and staff held a birthday party for me this week which was lovely, we all enjoyed some dominoes pizza and chocolate cake made by ......! (From the Philippines)

Today we are celebrating VE day and will be having another tea party with some sing-alongs, as well as having the TV on in the background with VE day celebrations and speeches.

The residents have been enjoying the lovely weather in the garden again this week!

The staff morale has been boosted by some lovely veg selection and meat selection boxes provided by ......!

.... (my Mum) is on her second course of antibiotics as she is still not herself, she also has had a number of falls in the last 24 hours. The GP has been made aware and has prescribed a 3rd course of antibiotics which is stronger. She is always on a fluid chart anyway but I just wanted to let you know this is in place so we can monitor how often she is being encouraged to drink and whether or not she is accepting a drink. She is currently on half hourly checks due to the number of falls she is having.

Kind regards,

And then this one from my brother this morning.

I  had a call earlier from ............. to say that Mum had a another fall during the night. She had hurt and gashed her leg, so they have taken her to Poole Hospital. I was half expecting that the next call would be about a fall and was waiting for the phone to ring.

Maybe this is it. I haven't seen my mum since before Christmas last year. I have been prepared for when she does depart for a long time now.

So, that is what it is like in one particular care home. Doesn't say where the donations actually come from private or govt.

Nick

Sorry to read this, Nick.

Traumas like this are worrying for an elderly patient, but even with the best care happen very frequently. Hopefully she will be properly assessed for her injuries at Poole and be safely returned to her nursing care.

Must clearly be of great concern to you....hope you get some positive news soon.

It's the latest speculation Gooner, a lot of conclusions being leapt to but it's just another opinion among many. I thought it wasn't great from Sky to break that news given it's pretty unsubstantiated.

That's worrying for you  Nick , fingers crossed for a speedy recovery .

For anyone with parents or relatives in a care home it must be a nightmare and very frustrating.

Up here we quite often get a number of offshore oil-related vessels anchored up off the coast. There seem to be a few more than usual at the moment https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:-2.051/centery:57.189/zoom:12

This is the one we went in a few years ago in Alaska

They have got quite a bit bigger since then - I think this one was about 6 floors but the newer ones have more

This one had about 2500 passengers some of whom you can just make out near the top

Its also a dumb thing to say as the care workers all go home , keeping it very much alive in the UK , and lets be clear there are thousands of care homes up and down the country .

The boys at Tufton St. are worried about the effect on asset values if rents aren't being paid. They aren't looking forward to the candid client conversation where they have to tell the client that their UK property portfolio lost money this year.

“You may kill an artist or a thinker, but you cannot acquire his art or his thought. You may put a man to death because he loves his fellow-men, but you will not by so doing acquire the love which made his happiness. Force is impotent in such matters; it is only as regards material goods that it is effective. For this reason the men who believe in force are the men whose thoughts and desires are preoccupied with material goods.“ — Bertrand Russell

If it's not correct now, it probably will be soon. Over here, a large majority of infections are now either in residential care homes or in hospitals. Given that known infection rates are now down to 250 a day or less, infection rates in the general community are now very low.

I see Teachers unions sent a list of key measures to the government , that's probably ended a chance of returning before September I'd have thought

Apparently it's gone into hiding ....... in all the garden centres (all of which are run by complete buffoons who have no idea how to manage social distancing)

We still have thousands, probably add a few more when you take into account the unreliability of self testing

It must be still circulating in the community as Gooner's Uncle sadly knows too well

Amazing how different "old people" are due to the separation of a few miles of Estuary. Over here they are very frightened and sticking indoors and getting food delivered in whatever way they can. The youth are strolling around in the sun, two abreast, staring at their phones without a care to blocking paths etc.

And that's what I don't get , there must be thousands as you say

And yes my Uncle Nev can testify to that also ( no overnight news )

The elderly here are generally wealthy. That is probably the big differentiator.

Yo yo yo. 148-3 to the 3 to the 6 to the 9, representing the ABQ, what up, biatch?

Just had another thought re the self testing kits done through the post.  There was no mail yesterday and again today. How long can the virus live on a swab? By the time it gets to the lab and processed, the virus may have died anyway, so could lead to false negatives?

How do you get on buying plants online when you have less control over the quality you choose?

At least it will be mild!

I'm pretty sure he will quit at or before the next election. He will have got his Brexit done which will be his legacy, achieved his life ambition of being Prime Minister and judging by some of the crap comparisons with VE Day on the TV yesterday he might even try and portray himself as a modern day Churchill who fought the virus. SO job done.Except he thought it would be a "jolly" and he has had to take pressure, criticism and think and at times do something he has rarely done in the past - work. I suspect all of this, especially the latter will make him decide to "spend more time with his family".
