Players at some clubs across Europe - including Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund - have agreed to take temporary pay cuts.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52070969

The pay cuts will need to be permanent. Nonetheless it is a start. Hopefully teams in the English Premier League will follow and raise up the stakes.

From the closed thread

So, in a moment of drunken solace at 2.30 in the morning, I wanted to state that my 82 year old mother has been taken to hospital with a raging temperature and I’ve today been furloughed with a wide and three kids to support. Apologies for the self indulgence and reliance on booze to get through it tonight, but so be it.

Really sorry  to hear  about your Mum  Jason- fingers crossed it's not as bad as it sounds

We all have our threshold   for necking  booze - nobody is going to judge you in the least.

From the diary of Samuel Pepys:

London, 16th October 1665

But Lord, how empty the [city] streets are, and melancholy, so many poor sick people in the streets, full of sores, and so many sad stories overheard as I walk, everybody talking of this dead, and that man sick, and so many in this place, and so many in that. And they tell me that in Westminster there is never a physitian, and but one apothecary left, all being dead – but there are great hopes of a great decrease this week: God send it.

My deepest sympathies to Haghir, whose position is really dire, but is likely to be overlooked as it was the last post in yesterday's thread.

LBC just said all Welsh NHS workers have been tested for antibodies since March 18th. Is that true?

Peoples responses with regard to alcohol consumption are varied. I know some who have sought solace in the bottle and others like me, whose consumption has dropped from moderate to near zero.

I opened a bottle of beer last night and really enjoyed it. That makes one whole pint I have consumed in the last three weeks.

Stay safe everyone; this is spreading and the risk of catching it is rising everywhere day by day.

Time to grit our teeth and get through the next month or two, even if there’s a good chance of getting only mild symptoms.

Tory MP Laura Trott on LBC: Non-essential workers are still able to go to work if they can't work remotely as long as they maintain social distancing. This is because the government is very mindful of the economy.

Personally I would extend the lock-down to stop these workers going to work.

Had a call from my son this morning.  He and his partner have been furloughed.  They moved into their first home together in January, having previously lived with us and they’ve worked hard to get their place nice.  He sounded a bit despondent and she was distraught. But, they have us to fall back on and they really have no need to worry. They’re in a far better position than a lot of people.

I understand it’s a shock and it might seem that all you’ve worked for is suddenly in vain.  But you will always adapt to life’s knocks and you will always come through it a stronger person.  It’s not easy having to adapt but I think you will soon realise that you can manage with much less and when all this upset ends, you’ll still manage with less and you’ll appreciate the little luxuries.  Take it from one who has lived, lost and survived.

For example:  My brother-in-law is a golf club green keeper.  Obviously the course is closed but the course still needs maintaining. He drives to work in the morning on his own, does his job out in the open, without being near anyone else and then drives home.  He’s neither putting himself or anyone else at risk, so I don’t see why the government should pay him to stay at home.  It wouldn’t make economic sense.

To be honest I can see Brian’s point have been working at the school all week with few support people and teachers I have to say it’s near on impossible to keep to the guidelines you just don’t know what the person next move is.

They get some income and no one is put at risk.
You could argue it’s non essential but if challenged I will argue it’s no greater risk than going round three shops for supplies (which I will do on the way).

However, even some key workers cannot maintain the separation, so it’s not that easy.

I fully agree Neil. There seems to be an endless supply of people online ready to judge everyone on their (sometimes perceived) actions. The reality is that most people (admittedly not everyone) will try to do their best to protect themselves and others. That does not mean that everyone will interpret the guidelines in the same way, but it should also not mean that people should be roundly condemned by others who do not know their circumstances.

For clarity I don’t mean the groups of people socialising in public, I mean the couple seen walking down the street or in the local park etc. I’m also not explicitly referring to this forum as people are much much more judgemental elsewhere online.
