I think the hotels are primarily for medical staff. I doubt they are suitable for ICUs.

Australia is finally getting up to speed with the travel issue:

"Australia’s absolute ban on foreign travellers from Friday night is a dramatic step – but one Prime Minister Scott Morrison said was crucial to slow the spread of Covid-19.

Earlier travel bans – and the prospect of quarantine for those who were allowed in - had already reduced travel to Australia to one-third of normal levels.

But stopping all but Australian citizens and residents entering the country will soon cut international arrivals to a trickle – mainly Aussies abroad heeding government advice to head home as soon as possible.

Qantas has agreed to keep services going from key locations to enable those repatriations, the PM said.

“About 80% of the cases we have in Australia are either the results of someone who has contracted the virus overseas or someone who has had direct contact with someone who has returned from overseas," Mr Morrison added.

"So, the overwhelming proportion of cases in Australia have been imported.”"

If the demands on the NHS peak as high as the ‘experts’ predict (the ones managing the situation) then surely it’s time to mobilise the Army Medical Corp. 

Or maybe, like closing schools and the imminent strict measures in major cities, HMG don’t want the sight if hundreds of Army vehicles on the streets to frighten people. Too late for that maybe?

I am genuinely wondering if the UK government is still holding back because it fears it will lead to panic. Perhaps they fear lockdown can not be enforced because we don't have enough police / soldiers?

I wondered why this wasn’t happening yesterday. There are army tented field hospitals (from Afghanistan for instance) in storage that could be built in quick time on open discs in cities.

Best hope Bamford doesn't decide he can make more money flogging them to the EU. On the other hand perhaps better for us if he does. I expect anything produced in the UK will take weeks or months and is likely to riddled with faults. That's not a criticism of the Brits. It's an observation on how manufacturing works. It takes a long time to build reliable high tech products and usually involved a number of iterations.

I suspect only about 20,000 will die here - not much more than a bad flu season
