But... the whole point is there is a 2-3 week lag. So the fact services were not overloaded a week ago is irrelevant.

If the Dept. of Health think the control measures are going to reduce the cases by that much, surely the herd immunity threshold won't be reached?  (suggests Vallance's comments have indeed been misinterpreted) I get the need to not overload our NHS, but we must be banking on a second wave not occurring, or not being more deadly than the first, if we aren't intending on immunity. Then I'm thinking why aren't we doing more (like other countries) in order to control the outbreak?

I'm confused, I think I might go to bed now

Incidentally, as of yesterday school absences here were around normal. I’m not sure what next week will hold but I suspect they may be a little higher.

One thing discussed at work this week was pollen levels. Some signs of hay fever amongst a few people triggered by tree pollen. This may be leading a slightly sore throats so worth bearing in mind.

There are many symptoms of the virus , sore throat actually being one of them , I found out today that a girl who works for us in customer services rang 111 ( after have a 2 day sore throat ) and the advice was …………………….self isolate for a week?

Yet a guy who works for me in Operations had a cough , tight chest and complained of being hot for 2 days , rang 111 , they sent him to the doctor who then said to him " what are you worried about "

I think this is symptomatic of the general state of concern and worry there is in this country at the moment. I will admit that I have been stressing a bit over things in the last few days, and thus far I have managed to avoid the virus.

Stockpilers are now really pissing me off. It's hit, at certain shops: pasta, pasta sauces, teabags, eggs, milk, nappies, baby wipes, bleach, anti-bacterial wipes,etc - as well as the toilet rolls, soap, hand gel, paracetamol. Was talking to the checkout girl in Aldi and they told me a woman had kicked off in the morning as they wouldn't let her buy eight 24-packs of toilet rolls. Apparently, Morrisons are selling 5 million toilet rolls a day. FFS.

To be honest, it is hard for anyone to know what is the best things to do at the moment. No-one, not even the most gifted people in the medical world right now know exactly how this virus is going to behave. Unfortunately, we are really hostages to fate as things stand.
