There was some cloud around for a while during this evening, but this has all now melted away for now and a completely sunny evening means that in the end, a total of 11.7 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.
That makes today the sunniest day of this month so far by quite a fair distance and just like in June, this also keeps alive, our outside chance of once again, escaping with yet another sunnier than average month this time as well.
Given this amount of sunshine and the lack of any onshore wind from off the North Sea, I had expected the temperature to get above 80°F at all three of my local stations for the first time this year. That didn't quite happen and today wasn't as hot as what I had expected it to be under these circumstances.
However, it was still fairly hot nevertheless with a maximum temperature of 25.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 26°C at Edinburgh Airport and 26.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which was still enough for today to go down as the hottest day of this year so far at all three of my local stations as a result.
An onshore wind has now started to develop which is helping to cool things down a little bit, but it remains very warm and humid, so the temperature at 10pm tonight was 18.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18°C at Edinburgh Airport and 17.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
