Medium-level overcast, calm, dry (for now - a large area of heavy rain over the French coast appears to be heading this way).

20*C; 87%RH.

That fog (which we refer to as the east coast haar) wasn't around when I submitted my last report onto this thread, but it has really closed in now and it's raining once again as well now.

In addition to that, the temperatures are also refusing to rise here and just after I submitted my last report here, they actually dropped to below those values which I had already reported as last night's overnight minimum temperatures.

This means that this minimum temperature was now actually 12.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 10am this morning was 12.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A fresh feeling 18.0 c under overcast skies, it's actually the current minimum after having been in the 20 c to 22 c range all last night. What's all that about?!

The lawn is not as lush and green as I'd like it to be as we've not had any real rain since last Tuesday night's thundery stuff - and it looks like the upcoming next batch will be missing us.

No much change from earlier on. The fog has gone again, but we have continued to see some heavy rain at times and so, nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Today's rainfall total as at 12 noon now stands at 12.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and at least 10.6 mm (the actual total is probably well above that since it has been raining quite heavily during the last hour) at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Even if you take all of those ongoing discussions about a possible heatwave out of the equation, today has still been a really abysmally cold day for the time of year up until now, as the temperature at 12 noon was still stuck at just over 12°C in this part of the world after having not budged one single bit from where they were during the overnight period.

Just a moment ago, I heard what I has turned out to be a loud but distant rumble of thunder and then a few minutes, I then saw a bit of lightning from my front window.

At long last, something interesting has actually happened as the thunderstorms have finally arrived in this area.

I could see this coming as well because for a while, it had been getting very dark here for the time of year (especially since we are just a couple of days past the summer solstice).

As I write as well, the rain has also started hammering down yet again after having stopped for a while.

Just had a period of very light rain, now drying off. For about the third time recently an area of heavy rain heading north across the Channel has faded away as it reached the south coast.

At 22*C and 77%RH it's really not unpleasant at all.

20C with wind from a SE angle. We can do summer fog too in the South when conditions are right. Foggy on the coast and grey.

The earlier rain and thunderstorms have cleared away for now, but it is still very misty and overcast here in Edinburgh.

The result of this is that nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon.

Today's downpours have been extremely localised and the amount of rain from them has varied quite a lot across my three local stations.

At the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, a total of 14.8 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far as at 5pm this afternoon which is only just enough to make today the wettest day of this summer there so far.

At Edinburgh Gogarbank though, it is a completely different story as a colossal total of 45.5 mm has been recorded for today there so far as at 5pm this afternoon. That not only makes today the wettest day of this year so far at that particular station by quite a considerable margin but as far as I can remember, that is also the biggest daily total which I have ever recorded for any of my three local stations since I first joined this forum back in 2016.

Yet today has been a day when the temperatures have been refusing to rise as well. As at 5pm, today's temperatures haven't yet maxed out, but they are very poor for this time of the year.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 13.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
