At least the rain held off!

Corhampton and Meonstoke churches are only two hundred yards apart, on opposite sides of the river, but there is a folk memory of friendly(?) rivalry going back centuries to the time when Corhampton was settled by Saxons and Meonstoke by Jutes. The 13th C church at Meonstoke is said to have been built because of a reluctance to go to the older 11th C church at Corhampton. There was no bridge across the river until the turnpike era in the early 19th C.
