I'm starting this thread slightly earlier than normal since I'm struggling to stay awake just now, and probably won't be able to do so until the midnight data comes in from my three local stations.

Anyway, I would like to wish all Mums out there a very happy Mother's Day.

Hopefully, your Sons and/or daughters will look after you well on the day ahead and if they are going to give you your breakfast in bed, they will probably need to be doing so an hour earlier than normal since the clocks will also be going forward in less than a couple of hours' time, thus marking the start of British Summer Time although that will at least make it a lot lighter at nights from now on.

This means that we will now be entering the really light nights but for now, it is dry and fairly clear with a temperature of around 2°C which is a lot colder than what it has been here recently.

In complete contrast to that, we have just finally had our first frost here for quite a while.

We might well have just entered British Summer Time, but this morning has started off on a cold and frosty note with only the first official air frost to be recorded at all three of my local stations since 10 March which is exactly three weeks ago.

However, that has also taken us into a bright and sunny start to today and despite the fact that we have lost that hour due to the change of the clocks, a total of 36 minutes of sunshine has still been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was -0.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -2°C at Edinburgh Airport and -0.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 0.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -1°C at Edinburgh Airport and 0.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Despite all of this lovely sunshine though, it's not all that warm for this time of the year and so, the temperature at 12 noon was 8.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, there is quite a cool wind which is now blowing straight in from off the North Sea and making it feel rather chilly as a result.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 8.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Despite that sunshine though, the temperatures from the latter part of this morning have generally been refusing to go up, due to that chilly wind from off the North Sea, so today's maximum temperature was 8.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which makes today only the first day since 18 March, where the temperature has failed to reach double figures at any of my three local stations.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 5.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
