Once again, this evening has descended into yet another dull and overcast nothingness as our spring borefest goes on.
The result of this is that in the end, yet another really abysmal total of just 36 minutes of sunshine was recorded for the whole of today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.
There are now only another 10 days left of this month and now, we need to be getting an average of at least 4.61 hours of sunshine per day between now and the end of this month if this month is to somehow, end up being sunnier than average overall at Edinburgh Gogarbank and yet, we have only had an average of 2.9 hours of sunshine per day during this month so far at that particular station.
As things stand, this month is looking on course to end up being substantially duller than average overall as a result. There are two factors which are acting in favour of us still getting a sunnier than average month nevertheless.
First of all, the days are lengthening very quickly just now which will increase the maximum possible amount of sunshine on each day from now on. Secondly and after a briefly more unsettled period at the end of this week and into the weekend, next week is forecast to be more high pressure dominated which on average, should increase of chances of seeing more in the way of sunshine.
The major caveat to that though comes from the fact that we have had a relatively settled spell of weather during this week only for there have been virtually nothing to show for that in the way of any decent sunshine totals, so next week's predicted spell of more settled weather is going to have to bring a lot more in the way of sunshine with it than what we are seeing this week if we are stand any chance of this month being sunnier than average overall in the end.
Anyway, today's maximum temperature was 13.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 11.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
