For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes the total for this month so far to 77.0 mm, the total for this spring so far to 77.0 mm and the total for this year so far to 107.8 mm as at 8am this morning.

Yesterday was the wettest day of the year but still could only clock up 10.4mm.

Monthly total 38.2mm so very much possible it will be yet another drier than average month meaning just one out of 12 will be wetter than average. Even during the previous four years of above average rainfall, dry months were never this scarce.

This pattern has to break soon and likely just in time for the beginning of the summer half of the year

A total of just 0.4 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank thanks to a single shower of rain which actually missed this part of Edinburgh altogether, where I live.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this makes the total for this month so far to 78.6 mm, the total for this spring so far to 78.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 109.4 mm as at 8am this morning.

However, the botanic gardens in Edinburgh were completely dry during yesterday for the first time this month and this spring, so the totals for that particular station remain unchanged from my last report here as at 8am this morning.

At the moment, there still hasn't been a single day during this month or spring so far which has been completely dry at both of those stations. Given the latest forecasts though, we shouldn't have to wait for too much longer now, for that to happen.

Since my last report here, there has only been an additional 0.2 mm of rain at Edinburgh Gogarbank (which fell in the form of a single brief shower on Tuesday morning) and nothing at all at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This means that the total for this month has only increased to 78.8 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank, whilst remaining firmly stuck at 77.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which is now on its sixth day of its current and latest completely dry spell.

In a way, this has placed this week on a par with the winter where we were generally struggling to get any rainfall whatsoever. The difference on this occasion though, is that this latest dry spell has come too late to prevent this month from being substantially wetter than average overall when it comes to the final statistics for this month.

However, today has been completely dry so far at both of those stations as at 9am this morning.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes the total for this month so far to 79.8 mm, the total for this spring so far to 79.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 110.6 mm as at 9am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes the total for this month so far to 77.4 mm, the total for this spring so far to 77.4 mm and the total for this year so far to 108.2 mm as at 9am this morning.

In the end, a total of 0.6 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that brings the totals so far as at 8am this morning to 80.4 mm for this month, 80.4 mm for this spring and 111.2 mm for this year.

However, there was not enough rain during yesterday for any recorded rainfall to be registered at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so the totals for that station remain unchanged since my last report here.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is 143.8% of the 1981-2010 average for that station whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 149.7% of its 1981-2010 average rainfall during March.

Overall, this shows that March was a substantially wetter than average month at both of those stations in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, despite an almost complete lack of any sort of rainfall over the last couple of weeks.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank had 15 official rain days during March and this shows that it was also a wetter than average month there in terms of the number of official rain days since that amounts to 127.1% of the 1981-2010 average. It is a similar story at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which had 14 official rain days with that amounting to 141.4% of the 1981-2010 average.

In addition to that, I can also confirm that the total for this spring so far as at midnight going into Monday 1 April 2019 is 80.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 77.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is 53.2% of the 1981-2010 average whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 54.9% of its 1981-2010 average during this spring so far as at midnight going into Monday 1 April 2019.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 15 official rain days during this spring so far as at midnight going into 1 April 2019 which is 45.5% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 14 official rain days during this spring so far which is 49.5% of the 1981-2010 average.

I can also confirm that during 2019 so far, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had a total of 111.2 mm of rain as at midnight going into 1 April 2019 which is 14.7% of the 1981-2010 average, whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had a total of 108.2 mm of rain during 2019 so far as at midnight going into 1 April 2019, which is 15.4% of the 1981-2010 average.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 26 official rain days so far during 2019 as at midnight going into 1 April 2019 which is 18.9% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 22 official rain days during 2019 so far at at midnight going into 1 April 2019 which is 17.1% of the 1981-2010 average.
