Low cloud cover, W wind, dry after 2.3mm rain since midnight.

12.6*C after a minimum of 8.9*C at 12.30am; 85%RH.

1004.3mb steady.

I'm really not used to all this windy weather - we've had HP dominated conditions for so long.  And the change to very mild temps means that the winter clothes that I went back to wearing after the hot snap are now too hot again.  I guess it's that changeable time of year, but to quote my wife: "Ooh, I just don't know what to wear!"

This morning has brought us some cloud at times, the odd shower but also some sunny intervals and so a total of 2.4 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far as at 12 noon.

These showers have only resulted in a total of 0.2 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, but we have just had a much heavier shower as I write.

It is also still very windy with the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank still gusting up to 35.4mph from the west at 12 noon.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 5.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 7.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Grim with overcast skies and persistent drizzle blowing about in a brisk west breeze. Thus making the current 11.3 c & 94% h feel rather bleak for it. 6.6 mm so far today, but 5 mm of that came from overnight rain.

A comedown on this time yesterday afternoon when it peaked at 15.9 c at 2.30 pm in sunny spells.  Still, just one more full Autumnal day to come before things does get better thereafter.

The Sun is shining here in Edinburgh as I write and a total of 4.6 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

However, there has also been a number of showers which at times, has fallen as hailstones and wet snow, even to the extent of giving us a very brief temporary covering at one stage.

Although these showers have been heavy when they have come along though, they have passed over very quickly and because of that, the resulting rainfall totals from that continue to be rather small.

This means that a total of 1.0 mm of rain has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank (where today will therefore go down as yet another official rain day as a result) as at 4pm this afternoon, but along with 0.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, the reason why those showers have blown over so quickly is down to the fact that it is still very windy here with maximum wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank of up to 47.2mph from the west as at 4pm this afternoon.

Today's maximum temperature actually occurred during the early hours of this morning and was 8.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Despite the sunshine, the temperatures have generally been refusing to go up during the day with quite a noticeable but temporary drop in the temperatures during those heavier showers which on one occasion, even took the temperatures to below the earlier reported overnight minimum temperatures from this morning even during the early part of this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 6.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

At long, long last, we have finally managed to get a fairly sunny end to today for once which means that in the end, a total of 5.4 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

The earlier showers also appear to have died away now although they have increased today's rainfall total so far to 1.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 1.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 8pm this evening. This means that today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations.

The wind has died down a bit though and the temperatures are now falling away as a result under those much clearer skies which we now have.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 4.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Just had a spell of quite heavy rain bringing today's total to 12 mm. It's also 10.2 c & 95% h outdoors and the wind has fallen light for now and it does feel quite sticky indoors (had to turn the heating off).

Looks like being a quiet peaceful night tonight as I can't imagine that very many people wanting to make a night of it in that nightclub around the corner from my house. Looks like being the same thing tomorrow night.

Less windy this morning than one would expect from the warnings, only a moderate breeze - but there's always time for it to strengthen.
