The Sun is shining here in Edinburgh as I write and a total of 4.6 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.
However, there has also been a number of showers which at times, has fallen as hailstones and wet snow, even to the extent of giving us a very brief temporary covering at one stage.
Although these showers have been heavy when they have come along though, they have passed over very quickly and because of that, the resulting rainfall totals from that continue to be rather small.
This means that a total of 1.0 mm of rain has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank (where today will therefore go down as yet another official rain day as a result) as at 4pm this afternoon, but along with 0.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
However, the reason why those showers have blown over so quickly is down to the fact that it is still very windy here with maximum wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank of up to 47.2mph from the west as at 4pm this afternoon.
Today's maximum temperature actually occurred during the early hours of this morning and was 8.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
Despite the sunshine, the temperatures have generally been refusing to go up during the day with quite a noticeable but temporary drop in the temperatures during those heavier showers which on one occasion, even took the temperatures to below the earlier reported overnight minimum temperatures from this morning even during the early part of this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 6.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
