A thoroughly wet and miserable morning here in Edinburgh with heavy rain continuing to fall in this part of the world although there are some signs on the latest radar map that this rain might be starting to clear away very soon (or at the very least, be about to become more showery in nature).

This means that a total of 7.4 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning along with 7.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which means that today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations. This also already makes today, the second wettest day of this year so far at both of those stations.

Overnight minimum temperature was 2.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 5.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Damp and am feeling the effects of a rather strong southerly wind blowing straight in from the Strait of Dover, and thus the 9.2 c & 89% h felt Autumnal like when I popped out to get the papers.

Come back Spring, all is forgiven.

There was a respite from the rain during the middle part of this morning before it then came down much heavier for a while once again. The rain now appears to be clearing away but for a brief period of time just a short while again, thick fog then closed in. That has now started to lift, but the skies remain very grey and leaden for now. The result of this is that nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

As a result of all of that heavy rain, a total of 11.6 mm of rain has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon, along with 9.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That now makes today the wettest day of this year so far at both of those stations with more rain during today alone at Edinburgh Gogarbank than what there was at that station over the entire month of January.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 7.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

We've had about 16mm since midnight, but it had mostly cleared away by 10am.
Some sunny spells now and just over 10C

The rain has now finally cleared away and there has been some blue sky around during this afternoon with even the odd glimpse of the Sun, yet there is still nothing in the way of sunshine which has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 8.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A rather cloudy end to today means that in the end, nothing in the way of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This makes today the first completely sunless day of both this month and this spring and so as well as being a very wet start to this month, this is also turning out to be a very dull start to the month in this part of the month.

Then as if we hadn't had enough rain already for today, there has been some further rain during this evening and it is still raining a little bit as I write. This now takes today's rainfall total so far as at 8pm this evening to 12.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 10.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today's maximum temperature was 8.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 7.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
