Today has already showed us just how quickly the weather can change.

The day started off on a promising note and when I woke up for a short while just before dawn, the sky was still clear here. That resulted in a rather cold night and for a very brief period during the early hours of this morning, the first official air frost of both this month and this spring was recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

That in turn, has then resulted in a total of 6 minutes of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am which is the first recorded sunshine of the year to have occurred before 8am on any given day.

However, I then woke up again a couple of hours later to discover that not only has it clouded over from the west, but that it is also raining here in Edinburgh as I write (so it's not such a nice morning after all for being out and about now).

The Sun made the odd very brief appearance during the early part of this morning, and there is the odd patch of blue sky around. After such a promising start to the day though, the really miserable total of just 6 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 1pm this afternoon with nothing at all in that department since 8am this morning.

There has also been some further rain at times and so, a total of 1.8 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 1pm this afternoon along with 1.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations as this rather wet start to both this month and this spring goes on.
