We have now just entered the final day of the meteorological winter, and the temperatures have been falling away gradually under clear skies.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 2.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 2°C at Edinburgh Airport and 2.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In a complete contrast other recent mornings, this morning has started off on a dull, misty, overcast, dreary, depressing and soul destroying note with constant grey skies, and with nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather, actually happening.

For a while after midnight, it got quite cold with an official air frost being recorded at Edinburgh Airport and Edinburgh Gogarbank, only for the temperatures to then shoot up once it clouded over.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was -0.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -2°C at Edinburgh Airport and 0.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, the temperature at 8am this morning had now gone up to 5.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

An absolutely dire, pointless and useless end to an absolutely dire, pointless and useless winter.

Murky, mild, damp and dreary but not forecast to get any rain. Just miserable and of course no frost for the ridiculous 18th consecutive night with a min of 4.2C.

Rather cloudy with even a spit of light rain just recently, but there are also some brighter breaks.

A more typical 10.6 c & 91% h with a moderate SW breeze adding more of a fresh & airy feel.

The weekend and into next week looks a bit s**t, but will serve a good reminder that we are still on this side of the Winter season.

Here in Edinburgh, the borefest goes on as this morning has just been one massive grey and overcast nothingness with constant grey skies, and with nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather actually happening.

The result of this is that nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

However, today is now turning out to be quite a lot cooler than of late, though still nowhere near as cold as what it was on this very same day last year when we were already about to go into our first ever official red warning from the Met Office for snow as the first Beast from the East episode began to bite hard.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 5.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Very grey and hazy but the sun keeps trying to poke through and still feels nice when it does!

It is also a year on from us losing all our tree cover to the flood alleviation scheme.

It has made quite a difference to light levels but taken out all the wild bird visitors that I now have to strain to hear calling one another over beyond the railway.

I'm sure it'll all be very nice in a year when the works are done and new 'mature' tress reinstated?

Still no change from earlier on as our borefest goes on.

It's not as misty as what it was earlier on, but those constant grey skies have remained throughout the day without even a single break in that cloud to be spotted.

The result of this is that nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 6.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The borefest goes on here and in the end, nothing in the way of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

That makes today only the first completely sunless day of this month but since today is also the last day of this month, it will also go down as the only sunless day of this month in the final statistics.

That also makes today the 22nd sunless day of this winter but since today is also the last day of the meteorological winter, it will also go down as the final sunless day of this winter.

Finally, today will also down as the 10th sunless day of this year.

Today's maximum temperature was 6.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so that today was quite a lot cooler than of late, almost by a whole 10°C and it's still not all that cold even now.

However, these really big diurnal temperature ranges which we have recently been experiencing have now become a thing of the past once again with the temperatures now refusing to drop.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 6.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
