This seems to have been left out - Well worth keeping tabs on this one. Some places must have had some impressive sunshine totals for this month.

This must be my 4th or 5th consecutive day on uniterrupted sunshine. This is uhead of in winter indeed in any winter month.

It would be great to see the sunshine records for this month.

I mentioned this on netweather, it could be one of the sunniest Februarys on record, I don't think it will beat 2008 except at perhaps at the local level. Only 2017 out of the Februarys of 2014 to 2018 was duller than average for England. Manston has recorded 119.8hrs this month up to yesterday

Last February was very sunny. Just before the Beast struck, it was similiar to this with sunshine levels

Yes, I was wondering when a thread like this would be started because anyone who reads my reports in the daily CC threads will know that I always include the sunshine totals for that day, and it would be nice to have a separate thread for that which works in the same way for sunshine totals, as what the monthly PW threads does for rainfall totals.

On that note, I can report that as at 4pm today, a total of 5.3 hours of sunshine had been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. That takes the total for this month so far to 85.7 hours of sunshine, the total for this winter so far to 198.8 hours of sunshine and the total for this year to 150.8 hours of sunshine as at 4pm this afternoon.

The 1981-2010 averages for that station are 69.6 hours of sunshine for this month, 150.4 hours of sunshine for this winter and 1,342.5 hours of sunshine for the year as a whole.

The totals for both this month and this winter are already well above those long term averages which means that whatever happens between now and the end of this month, both this month and this winter will go down as being much sunnier than average overall at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

As for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, I only have the totals for up to sunset last Thursday since I have to rely on the Met Office WOW website for that data, which is only ever updated every so often for that particular station.

Up until the end of Thursday, a total of 79.9 hours of sunshine had been recorded during this month so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, with a total of 209.8 hours of sunshine being recorded during this winter so far and with a total of 151.2 hours of sunshine being recorded for this year so far.

The 1981-2010 averages for that station are 78.5 hours of sunshine for this month, 178.2 hours of sunshine for this winter and 1,426.6 hours of sunshine for the year as a whole.

As as the case at Edinburgh Gogarbank, the totals for both this month and this winter are already well above those long term averages which means that whatever happens between now and the end of this month, both this month and this winter will go down as being much sunnier than average overall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

There is still plenty of sunshine being forecast for the rest of this month and with that, there is the real possibility that more than 100 hours of sunshine could end up being recorded at one or both of those above stations during this month, which would be remarkable for any winter month.

There was a completely sunless day recorded at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh on 3 February 2019, but not a single completely sunless day has been recorded during this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank, and that is also very remarkable for any winter month.

Everything went down the toilet here after the first 11th including sunshine levels. Hence completely unremarkable and could end up duller than both 2016 and 2018. Will certainly not be as sunny as 2015 but has already exceeded the average though following the very sunny start. Not a big achievement when 2017 is the only duller than average February since 2012. It certainly seemed far sunnier last year before the easterly grot set in during the last few days.

Nothing particularly outstanding there unlike November, December and January which have seen several exceptionally high totals recently.

My place in France (nearest station Macon) has recorded a whopping 153hrs of sunshine so far this month. Average of 6 hours a day which is better than some places in June. That’s despite recording nothing in the first 3 days.

They’ve also managed to have a mean max 4C above normal and mean min only 0.9C above.

We have now had more than 100 hours of sunshine at Edinburgh Gogarbank during this month, with a total of 101.3 hours of sunshine being recorded for there so far during this month as at 4pm this afternoon. That total is likely to go up slightly further in the next hour before sunset and then, there is still tomorrow to go until we reach the end of the month.

For a winter month, that is extremely remarkable. The botanic gardens in Edinburgh had a total of 91.4 hours of sunshine during this month so far as at the end of Monday but when all of the data comes through for there, I will expect the total for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh to be even higher than what it is for Edinburgh Gogarbank and therefore, also be more than 100 hours of sunshine for this month.
