The Sun is shining here in Edinburgh just now and it is slightly cooler than of late, but too much cloud and too much wind during the night prevented the temperatures from falling by all that much which means that our frost-free hell goes on.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 6.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Torrential rain here - just a sudden downpour. This wasn't in the forecast and looking at the latest radar it looks like it's just a brief but heavy shower.

Here in Edinburgh, an almost completely sunny morning means that a total of 3.3 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon although there is more in the way of cloud around just now.

Having said that though, it is very windy here and at 12 noon, the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank was gusting up to 43.5mph from the SSW.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 6.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 8.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so today is a bit cooler than of late, but still rather mild.

This afternoon has brought us more in the way of cloud than what we saw during this morning but in spite of that, a total of 6.1 hours of sunshine has still been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

It's not quite as windy just now either, as it was earlier on but even at 4pm this afternoon, the wind was still gusting up to 35.4mph from the WSW at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

There was also a brief spell of light rain a short while ago, but this lasted for such a short period of time that I will be surprised if this is enough to even register at any of my local stations as actual recorded rainfall, even though there's now been no recorded rainfall at Edinburgh Gogarbank since 9 February 2019 which is 9 days ago (there was 0.2 mm of rain which was recorded earlier on today at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, but this was probably only due to condensation rather than any actual rainfall).

Today's maximum temperature was 8.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so today has been a bit cooler than of late, but still mild.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 7.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A fairly bright end to today means that in the end, a total of 6.2 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This means that a total of just another 6.0 hours of sunshine is needed between now and the end of this month in order for this to go down as being sunnier than average overall. Regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month, this winter will go down as being substantially sunnier than average overall as we have already had far more sunshine during this winter so far, than that 1981-2010 average.

However, there was also some rain a short while ago which means that a total of 0.8 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8pm this evening along with 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That isn't exactly a lot but for Edinburgh Gogarbank, that is actually the first recorded rainfall since 9 February 2019 (which is 9 days ago) and although this has been an exceptionally dry winter overall, this also means there won't be any actual official absolute drought at any of my three local stations during this winter as there was during last summer.

The wind has died down a bit bit since there is still too much wind around as well as too much cloud, the temperatures are already refusing to drop.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 6.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
